CBI books former minister Jayanthi Natarajan, raids Chennai residence

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Saturday, carried out searches at the premises of former Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan after registering an FIR against her in connection with clearance given during her tenure for diversion of forest land for mining in alleged violation of laws.

The agency has registered its FIR against Natarajan, Umang Kejriwal, the then managing director of Electrosteel Casting Limited, and the company besides other unidentified persons.

The case pertains to clearance given for diversion of forest land in Saranda Forest, Singhbhum District in Jharkhand to mining company Electrosteel in alleged violation of Forest (Conservation Act) in 2012.

The permission was rejected by the Minister of State for Environment Jairam Ramesh but when Natarajan took the post, she allegedly cleared it.

"Jayanthi Natarajan, the then Minister of State for Environment and Forests accorded the approval for diversion of 55.79 hectares of forest land for non-forestry use to ECL, though the same had been rejected by the earlier Minister of State...without any change in the circumstances after rejection," the CBI FIR alleged.

It said this approval had been accorded without adhering to the advice of Director General Forests and directions of Supreme Court in this regard.

She dumped congress long back in 2014. Probably, now paying the price, for being not able to deliver goods for BJP.

Congress leaders are anyway targeted. No issue. But, till date only CBI raids, ED raids, this raid and that raid. Nothing come out. Pity Modi Govt., it is unable to deliver anything, except for mann ki baath, which is now becoming a butt of joke everywhere.

Selected raids by the CBI to target opposition leaders. The congress and its allies will return this compliment in greater vigour once they are in power. No news by all english TV channels on BJP ruled states. Even the CAG is silent or else during the UPA regime there used to be an expose regularly. What about appointment of Lokpal ?

This central Govt seems to be in auto Pilot as Modi does not seem to be in control and allowing matters to drift so that his position is not threatened.

Forget it, CONgress will never come to power again...during UPA rule 2004-2014,all their focus was to amass money by corruption and deposit it outside India....they had no time for anything else!!!....

Modi came to power by promising he will bring back all stolen money...so far he is total failure in that...if he looses 2019 elections( which I doubt), this will be main reason for his defeat...

I am looking for a third honest party(like AAP) to come to power other than CONgress and BJPeee in 2019....looks like its not going to happen....Mody knows Kejriwal could be his political opponent,,, that,s why he uses all his power to suppress him...sometimes uses judiciary in this as well....he knows with 10 years corruption background...CONgress can never defeat him at all....

All former CONgress union ministers were corrupt like her...no exceptions....Modi is doing it selectively....he should raid all former NDA ministers simultaneously...so others don't get time to plan hide incriminating evidence...

This raid must have conducted in May 2014...not today.....only shows Modi is not as efficient as he claimed during his 2014 election Bashaans!!!...
