Udupi, Aug 31: The student of a law college who was kidnapped on the afternoon of Thursday August 31 has been found.

Vijay Shetty, a third-year student of Vaikunta Baliga Law College, Kunjibettu was kidnapped between 2.30 and 3 pm on Thursday from his rented room in Paniyadi.

Vijay was in his room when unidentified men came in two cars and stopped in front of him. The kidnappers then forced him into one of the cars and sped away.

They took him to Katapady, thrashed and left him there, before fleeing the spot.

An injured Vijay has been admitted to government hospital.

Sources said that there were about 15 persons in the two cars. One of the kidnappers has been identified as Vivek B Rai from Brahmavar, it is learnt.

Vijay is from Kavadi and was staying at Paniyadi.

It is suspected that Vijay was abducted over some financial dispute.

Police sources said that Vijay, who claimed he was 32 years old, had lived in Belagavi for ten years, from 2004 to 2014, and incurred heavy losses in the share market. He faces a cheque bounce case filed by the accused, police sources said.

The police who have begun the investigation hope to get clues in CCTV images captured from the spot.

Udupi police have registered a case. Hunt for the kidnappers is on.
