Mangaluru: Heart-warming - Christian leaders meet and greet Hindu brethren on Ganesh Chaturthi

Mangaluru, Aug 28: In heart-warming gesture fostering the spirit of unity and harmony, leaders of Catholic Sabha, Mangaluru and Rashtriya Kristara Vedike on Sunday August 27 visited Sanghaniketan and Siddhi Vinayaka Prathistana, Bunts Hostel road here on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The heads of the Sanghaniketan and Siddhi Vinayaka Prathistana welcomed the Christian leaders in a traditional way with flowers and fruits. The visiting leaders then offered 'Pattu sarees' and 'lamp' to Lord Ganesha. The leaders of both the communities exchanged Ganesh Chaturthi greetings.

Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha, Mangaluru, Franklin Montheiro, president, Rashtriya Kristara Vedike, leaders Godwin Pinto,Steevan Rodrigues, Vividh D'Souza, Arun D'Souza, Molly Rego, Alwyn D'Souza, Alphonse D'Souza, Marline, Praveen Kumar, Raghuveer Kamath, Ravindra Kudva, Sathish Prabhu, and K Padmanabha were present.

Speaking to daijiworld, Anil Lobo said, "Catholic Sabha is an organisation of Christians which is working for the public good. Communal harmony is one of the main agendas of our organisation. It is our responsibility too. We are trying to build a peaceful society by fostering harmony. First and foremost, we are all Indians. Without India we are nothing. So it is our responsibility to work for peace and harmony in society. We cannot be limited to speeches and writings. We convey our message of peace to society in practice too.

"The main aim of festivals is to unite each other. Uniting families, friends, and finally the entire society. India is a country of many religions, languages, traditions and communities. The Constitution gives us the right to follow all these aspects as we want to. At the same time it is our responsibility to unite under the banner of one nation, that is our very own India," he said.

"Today we have received a warm welcome from our brothers. They are very happy about our visit. It reminds us of our olden days when there was no question of caste and religion. We will continue this tradition and will join hands with our Hindu brothers for communal harmony and peace in our district," he added.

    I agree with your comments to certain extend as I can see some creatures look like human in this part of the world are behaving like monkeys and apes. These are from one kind of human species. But, not all.
    Fyi: Darwin's theory is not completely established yet. There is a missing link.

    This is called spirit of Unity. Regardless of religion, we must stay united, (but stay away from politics). Worship our religion, respect other religions as well, trust and respect everyone in our society, believe our country. That is life. God bless you all.

    When we invite people from other religion, please do not perform any pooja rituals. Just mingle with them and give only the edible prasadam. Of course Christians will not have problem with all these, but we should respect their sentiments, even if one of them feels uncomfortable folding hand in front of our idols.
    But if we are inviting Muslims, we should be extra careful. We should not expect them to stand in front of the idol and accept prasadam as Franklin received here. Neither we can expect them to speak about Lord Ganesha. It is haraam in Islam to pray ,worship or speak about any other God. Or even to compare with other Gods is a sin/ Shirk. Refer surah 4.48.

    If we mingle during festivals, respecting each other's sentiments, Mangalore will be Xanadu!

    With this reply, I am not intending to drag it further. However, if theory of Darwin is to be believed, Why don't we see any monkey or Ape being evolved into man? why it happened in old times? Why don't a man evolves in to Ape? why no other animal evolves into something else?

    We too are evolving.. evolving takes thousand so years.. for proof each of us can find it in our own bodies.. you will find the remnants of the nictitating membrane in found in the corner of our eyes. The appendix at the end of our large intestine is also a remnant of earlier existing and functioning portion. We humans are the weaker physical forms of our ancestors (from the single celled lifeform to us and more to come, but because of us humans some evolution in other animals and us has weakened and vanishing). To learn about the macrocosm, learn of the microcosm.

    If man had evolved from monkeys, we find many species of monkeys still exist today. Why are these left without going through the process of evolution? By now all species of monkeys should have become extinct. The theory of evolution is heavily based on linking fossils of different species. For instance, it says the tail gradually became smaller over thousands of years and finally disappeared while the species of monkey evolved into man. Now where is that last smallest tail? Where is this missing link? Scientists are yet to find it.

    Ahmed, Yes Brahma means creator, but no one created first human on earth suddenly. We evolved slowly from apes over millions of years. The skeletal remains of apes and humans over several generations clearly show and prove this transition. The size of the brain has significantly increased as we evolved from apes to humans and it is still increasing. Read about human evolution.l am sure you will junk the Adam and Eve theory immediately.

    All Mangalorean Catholics descended from Hindu families. Our Hindu brothers welcomed our ancestors when they came to Tuluvanad after escaping from Portugese atrocities. Hindu kings/dynasties(Kadambas, Keladi etc) gave us land and treated us well. When Tippu Sultan took our forefathers to Srirangapatna , many Hindu families helped our ancestors to hide from Tippu's soldiers.
    We mangalorean Catholics owe a lot to our Hindu brothers. let us all live in peace and harmony. Lets practice our religion inside our homes. Outisde we all are children of Bharat Mata.
    No more hatred. Good Job Franklin Monteiro and the Catholic leaders who attended the program. I remember some of the Hindu leaders had attended infant Jesus festival.
    I would like to see that day, Hindu, Christians join our Muslim brothers and celebrate Ramadan.

    Everyone should understand this , As per me God is a Power with whom we can share our feelings & release our tension /happiness.

    The name to that Power by Human & divided in to groups.

    So, why ill feeling about other Group of people, let them believe as they want.

    I agree with this. I would like to share something, which always makes me feel happy.
    In our area, ours is the only Catholic house, we are completely surrounded by Hindus, and all of them are Shetty families. We always have great bonding and support like good neighbors.
    We celebrate festivals together, share foods prepared during festivals, during Astami, we get Moode, Payasa and Shemedadde, during Dipavali we get Sweet gatti, and during Chouti we get dosey & karmbu. Offcourse we also share during Christmas & Easter.

    Hope this goes on for ever.

    Once in Mumbai I had been to my Cousin house, I was lucky it was a Eid day,
    Hindus & Muslims are residing in the same building, I could not believe
    Muslim of the same building distributed fresh Mutton ( approx. 2 KGs uncooked)
    to each Hindu's flat. And afternoon Dates, Kheer & Sweets.

    i was so happy & for a minute I thought I was not lucky to have such a kind neighbours.

    Christian community has contributed immensely to nation building and communal harmony. They are well educated and have excelled in various fields without looking for any freebies from government despite being religious minority. Very nice gesture by them to visit Hindu brothers on this occasion.
