Mangaluru, Aug 21: Alester D'Souza, the new fashion icon from Mangaluru, has brought laurels to India and more so to his hometown, by winning a subtitle in the 'Man of the Year' international pageant in Indonesia.

Alester represented India in 'Man of the Year 2017' held from August 11 to 19, making him the first Mangalurean to be selected for the international pageant.

Alester won 'Mr Masterly' title for the talent show in the contest. He displayed India's exotic and diverse culture with a performance of an Indian martial arts.

"I performed the Lathi Fight and Kalaripayattu," said Alester speaking to daijiworld.

The other top subtitles were Mr Masculine, Mr Manly, Mr Mindful, and Mr Modern. "These were among the top titles. There were others on the lower rung," said Alester.

Alester however expressed disappointment about the failure of the national director of the event to brief him well. "I was not informed well enough about the contest. But I managed the title somehow," said a triumphant Alester.

Despite the glitches, Alister has done extremely well to win the subtitle. The stunning Mangalurean lad who left home turf on August 10, will be back in a few days.

"He will land in Bengaluru tonight (Monday August 21) and then head back home," said his mother Janet D'Souza.

What's next for Alester

"As of now, I just want to take some time and work on my weakness. Build up a good fan following and inspire all the youth to change their lifestyle to benefit the society.

"And since Man of the Year was a pageant to promote the protection of nature, I have learnt a lot about safeguarding wildlife and nature," Alester said.

"Hence, I look forward to go back to India and bring about some changes by creating social awareness for safeguarding the nature," he added.

Alester was selected for the international pageant 'Man of the Year 2017' after being the second runner-up in Mr India Manhunt International, held in Delhi, last September.

A mechanical engineering graduate from MITE, Moodbidri, Alester is the son of Antony and Janet D’Souza. Alester was a state-level athlete in school and went on to represent Karnataka in the national-level athletics during his studies in St Aloysius School. During his Mechanical Engineering course at MITE engineering, he trained at a fitness centre in Mangaluru. He secured a place at VTU Body-Building contest in 2014. He even contested in body building competition and won Mr Konkan 2014. He was a sponsored athlete for Musclemania India in 2015.

Here's wishing Alester good luck for all his future endeavours.
