Slide turns death trap for 13-yr-old girl in BBMP park in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 13 (DHNS): A 13-year-old girl succumbed to grievous head injuries after a slide crashed on her at a BBMP park in M V J Layout, Mahadevapura, on Saturday.

The police said that the victim, Priya Gowda, and her two friends sneaked into the park which was locked as work on installing the slide was underway.

Priya fell off the ladder of the slide - which was not fixed to the ground - and the slide immediately crashed on her.

The incident occurred at 4.35 pm. Priya's friends and a few neighbours took her home. Priya's parents then rushed her to a hospital in Kaggadaspura, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Priya’s father Subramanya is a real estate agent and her mother Vijayakumari is a homemaker. They are residents of Baddi Krishnapappa Layout. The victim was a Class VIII student of MDB School.

Case booked

Though the park was locked, there were no warning signs.

Based on the complaint by Priya’s parents, the police booked a case of criminal negligence against the BBMP official concerned and the contractor.

It's most unfortunate that a 13-year-girl has to die under such circumstances. May the soul of Priya rest in eternal peace. Condolences to her parents and loved ones. Tragedies do happen but this girl and her two friends should not have entered the park which was locked for some reasons.

RIP Priya. It is clearly said park was locked. Instead of accepting it is their daughters mistake parents are filing criminal case against the park. Money hungry?

Sheelaji - generally agree with what you say. We have to inculcate discipline in our lives and ensure that rules are not bent or ignored at any time in life. This poor girl lost her life purely because she was not instilled with the safety discipline. However, i do not agree with your view that these parents are seeking redressal for earning money. Probably, repeat probably, they see this as negligence from the authorities and hence want to book them for their mistake. After all, losing one's own daughter is a immeasurable loss.
