Mangaluru: Uber taxi drivers lock down office at Balmatta over frequent tariff revision

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangalore, Aug 9: Cab drivers of online taxi operator Uber on Wednesday August 9 locked up the company office at Balmatta here and protested against the company to press their demands.

The protestors said that they are in huge trouble due to Uber's frequent changes in tariffs and deduction in the incentives to the operators.

Speaking to Daijiworld, president of District Online Taxi Drivers and Owners Association B K Imthiyaz said, "In order to provide good offers to users, frequent changes are made to the tariffs of Uber and Ola app-based taxis. Trip has been doubled, and incentives have been deducted. Earlier, the incentive was Rs 4,100 for 13 trips, but now they changed it to Rs 3,200 for 27 trips. It is very difficult for us to cover 6-7 trips in a day."

"Uber has to fulfil our demands. They should have fixed tariffs on yearly basis and not make changes frequently. Cab aggregators should provide us security. People prefer app based taxi and we too like to offer our services. Strikes like these do no good to anyone. We need to look after our families for which the companies should pay us well,” he added.

"If we have to pick a passenger from the railway station, rickshaw drivers do not allow us to enter the railway station. As we are unable to pick passenger from the location, we are imposed penalty of Rs 150. This has to stop. We will continue this protest till our demands are fulfilled," he concluded.

Auto drivers are the real crook's after the Bus mafia. The Auto drivers trying to monopolize at the railway station, in fact passengers would prefer to travel by the cabs than auto because from the railway station specially the Mangalore Junction the auto drivers try to fleecy passengers. Even from city center anyone goes to the suburbs of Mangalore eg., Bondel during the day the auto drivers demand one and half rate. The same rate or even less the passengers can travel by cab comfortably and safe, with better service. God should save the Cab drivers.

People who comment here against drivers of Uber / Ola should also consider in Mangalore there is no passengers pick up near by taxi stands , Auto stand , Mangalore Jn railway station , Mangalore Central Railway station and Airport to Uber / Ola . This practice is no where in India other than Mangalore . Why charge the taxi driver who is not allowed to pick the passenger from where it is booked by passenger where the driver has no control ? Why the driver cant pick up from Airport and do we expect him to come back empty till city limits ? Do the drivers need to listen abusive words from auto drivers from railway stations when they go to drop the passengers ?
Here the problem is district administration of Mangalore city which is not hard enough to control Auto / Taxi unions who think few prime pick up areas just reserved for them .

I daily travel from city to kottara chawki for work in Uber but never faced any forced cancellation but aware of the problems the drivers face .

If you dont like their incentive schemes just detach your vehicle from company, why protest?

It is a pvt company they are their to do money, not government company to give you various bhagyas

Because most drivers have taken loans to buy their car believing in uber's earlier schemes and promises. Now they have to repay these loans.
uber's changes in schemes has made it difficult for them to make ends meet, even though they work more than 12 hours a day.

To me 4 - 5 times. I stopped using them. For Airport trip they demand more as they know we have no choice but to use them at that time. It is working fine in every other cities except in Mangalore.
