Mangaluru, Jul 24: Additional director general of police (ADGP) of criminal investigation department (CID), Pratap Reddy, arrived in the city on Sunday July 23. He held consultations with police officials from the city commissionerate as well as Dakshina Kannada district about the recent incidents which had given rise to tense situation.

Reddy was here to take part in a programme. Sources in police department said that Reddy used this opportunity to meet police officials from the district on Sunday evening and hold discussions about the recent incidents in general and about the murder case of Sharath Madiwala in particular.

Sources added that accused in Sharath murder case are yet to be found, although five special teams formed for the purpose are undertaking investigation from different angles. It has been over three weeks since the murder took place. Over 12 persons have already been taken into custody and questioned. Although the police could gather some clues during the questioning of a few among them, the information is not enough to reach a conclusion, it is learnt.

There has been pressure from various quarters to entrust investigation into Sharath Madiwala's murder to National Investigation Agency (NIA) and many expect order to this affect getting issued in a couple of days. If the state government is not interested in giving its nod for this proposal, the central government might move court and get a favourable order from there to begin NIA investigation, sources said.

The fact that Reddy , who had worked as western range inspector general of police here in the past, took initiative to hold discussions on this issue has given rise to speculation that the state government might be interested to hand over the case to CID for investigation.
