Kundapur, July 21: The additional district and sessions judge here, on Thursday July 20, sentenced a person who had robbed and murdered an elderly lady, to life imprisonment.

The convict had climbed the roof of a house near the market of Manoor village within Kota police station limits, entered the house after removing the tiles of the roof, killed a lonely woman staying in the house, besides decamping with gold and other valuables from the house.

Girija Urala (84), was staying in a house at Manoor near NH 66 alone. Pravin K V (25), resident of Kumbashi near Kota, Manoor resident Nithin Acharya (24), along with a juvenile, had climbed the window of the house and removed the tiles of the roof, before entering the house. They had inhumanely killed the elderly woman in the house and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 72,000, a mobile phone and a torch light. The gold robbed from the house was pledged in a finance company for raising loan. The police who conducted investigation on that basis had produced the accused in court and got them remanded to judicial custody. The then police circle inspector, B Arun Nayak, had filed charge sheet to the court under sections 302 and 392 of Indian Penal Code. The minor boy, who reportedly had taken part in the crime with the other two, was tried by Juvenile Justice Court.

The additional district and session court judge here, Prakash K Khanderi, who conducted hearing of the case, concluded that the allegations levelled against Pravin K V have been proved. He accordingly passed an order sentencing Pravin to life imprisonment under IPC 302. A fine of Rs 50,000 fine was levied on him. In addition, ten years rigorous imprisonment under IPC 392 also was announced by the judge. As the allegations made against another suspect, Nithin Acharya, could not be proved conclusively, the judge has acquitted him.

Public prosecutors, Srinivas Hegde and Harischandra Udyavar, had presented the case on behalf of the prosecution, Raghavendra Charan Navuda had appeared on behalf of Nithin Acharya.

Fine levied...for what purpose and where will that money go...will it be used for the upkeep of this creep in the prison... why is he allowed to live, when he did not have mercy on that poor senior and a woman who was staying all alone. What about that juvenile who was with him??? It looks like he has been trained to rob and kill...which will make him more dangerous as time passes by. Nithin acharya should be hung for his crime and the un-named juvenile sentenced to rigorous punishment.
