Bantwal, Jul 7: The police on Friday July 7 arrested BJP MPs Shobha Karandlaje, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLA Sunil Kumar, BJP leader Padmanabha Kottari and other leaders for attempting to protest against the assault on RSS worker Sharath at BC Road here despite Section 144 being clamped in the district.

The leaders as well as protestors including Nagaraj Shetty, Jagadish Shenava, Monappa Bhandary, Rukmayya Poojary, Sharan Pumpwell, Satyajit Suratkal, Jagadish Adhikari and many others were bundled into police vans over 20 government buses and taken to Beltangady and Puttur. They were later released.

RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat also arrived at the protest venue but left within a few minutes, but not before addressing the protest. His supporters lifted him up on their shoulders and surrounded him, blocking the police from arresting him.

The police have registered cases against more than 500 people for violating Sec 144 and booked them under sections 143 and 149 too.

The situation returned to normal after the protestors were arrested. The vehicular movement on the the highway that had been stalled due to the protest was restored after the protestors were taken away.

Earlier in the day, efforts being made by Hindu Hitarakshana Vedike to hold protest against murder attempt on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist, Sharath, and condemning frequent incidents of atrocities against members of Hindu community in the district, in spite of the fact that prohibitory orders under section 144 are in force, gave rise to an environment of tension at B C Road.

Sharath, who runs 'Udaya' laundry service at BC Road, was stabbed by a group on the night of July 4 just as he was about to leave from his workplace for home.

Police have repeatedly warned people not to form crowds, organize meetings and functions etc. Activists of Hindu organizations totalling over a thousand have gathered at several spots at B C Road. To thwart any untoward incidents, police personnel have been deployed all along the town. Western range inspector general of police, Harishekaran, and district superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, have been moving around the town and monitoring the situation.

Over 25 police vans have been stationed at B C Road. The police conducted march past in the town. Fire brigade vehicles have also been kept in readiness to face any eventuality.

MPs Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin Kumar Kateel, Karkala MLA, Sunil Kumar, former MLA, Padmanabha Kottary, and Hindu leaders like Rajesh Naik, Devadas Shetty, Jagadish Adhikari, G Anand, Jithendra Kottary and thousands of workers of Hindu organizations arrived here from various places including Mangaluru, Putur, Sullia and Beltangady to take part in the protest.

Addressing the protestors, Shobha Karandlaje said, "The state government is protecting some Muslim terrorists. Siddaramaiah government has completely failed to maintain law and order in the state. It is a murderous government. All the illegal things taking place in the Dakshina Kannada follow a pattern. And all these things happen with the support from the government. The prohibitory orders have been here for the past 47 days but relaxed when the chief minister (CM) arrives here. Do the orders not apply to the CM? How do they (Congress0 hold convention in Adyar when prohibitory orders are in place? Why only the innocent Hindu activists are arrested when they protest in a democratic way?"

Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "The atrocities against Hindus are going on continuously without any break. We will intensify the protest if we do not get protection."

RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said, "Communalists are targeting the Hindu people specifically to create tension. The situation is such that we cannot go anywhere for protection. There is total chaos here. We respect the law, that is why we postponed protest last time. But the Hindu community has lost its patience. Now it is necessary to express our pain. The government itself supports and tolerates illegal activities like cow slaughtering."

Speaking after visiting the laundry belonging to Sharath, Karandlaje criticized the state government for its failure to arrest the culprits. She said that the police force is being used to silence the protesters and the Congress government is abetting such incidents instead of controlling law and order situation.

Shops and commercial establishments are closing their shops one by one fearing worsening of the situation.

Ban all the communal organisations, that's the only solution for our problem. And by this incident, it is clear that politics and religion are one and the same. We need a good leader now, the one who can lead all the people into peace.

And people RSS is the most disciplined and most powerful organization in India. A lot of people are blindly ranting against Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh, without getting proper information. Goutham, "RSS is the most disciplined and most powerful organization in India". Agreed. Please go through youtube & see how they brainwash young children and train them to use guns, swords, arrows. These children are taught to fight whom ? At the border against enemy or against our own fellow Indian ? Do these leaders preach same thing to their own kids as they do with other children ? Have you seen them giving arms, sword and arrow to their own kids ? They want their children to study in foreign countries and use others innocent children to involve in crime in the name of religion ?

I have seen many protest. In all the pics Mr. Nalin kumar Kateel, MP of India is only supporting a particular community i.e hindu community. He should remember that there are other religions who are also his voters. By seeing his comments given earlier he's the one behind all these clashes.
Being MP what good has he done. Just check all the National Highway roads are they in good condition. We are paying tollgate for these potholes roads.
He is protesting for communal clashes.. Why cant he fight in Parliament so that employment is generated in our nation. So that Youth will start working and there wont be clashes as they will earn for their family.
I urge all the community voters elect a able MP for next election. Seeing PM in centre dont elect such a uncapable MP . A leader should represent all not particular community just for sake of votes. Innocents are loosing life. Wake up Dakshina Kannada judge the real culprit. BJP is playing vote bank politics and not concern over community.

Our police force is really a bunch of great actors!! Protest march is succed, amid section 144, is only because of our Police dept. What's the use of imposing section/curfew if our Force is working like this. Finally a drama of arresting! When muslim organisation wanted to protest in Mangalore, police laathis started to talk, whereas in Bhatta's area it becomes a piece of firewood. Shame on you, Dept. Remember you are being salaried by the taxpayers money, public money, not any fund from Kalladka.
When Sharath was suffering in the pool of blood, no kalladka/Maani/bantwal came to rescue. It was Mr Ravoof carried the operation, great!! May these gang of bhakths wanted him to die there, so that they can start their MP kateelanna's Fire agenda in district. Even in tumbay hospital, hundreds of bhakths came to take selfies, nobody has turned out to help him. Are we becoming Animals?? It's time to think dear brothers.
Kalladka had no time to visit Sharat in Aj hospital, but free to celebrate here, in the name of protest. Instead, these hundreds could offer prayers for his early recovery ! ( Again ...may be they want him to die, so that Fire agendas can be started)
Grow up dear brothers.. let's get some maturity! Muslims are not from Mars.
Lets show the world that "all of us are brothers, from different mothers"....

    God bless us all.

Finally, the general public needs to send a message to all political parties we no longer want to be pitted against each other, we refuse to listen to the grammar of polarisation. We also need to stop forwarding social media posts and WhatsApp messages which make matters worse or provoke hatred.
Religious incitement should not and must not lead to votes. Period.
We live in a time when `patriotic' sentiments are running high. Decide once and for all if your loyalty is with a religion or the nation. If it is the latter, call out every single party which tries to provoke religious animosity or panders to the radicals or the priests of any religion.
It is time we send across a message that governance is not a fleeting issue for us. That we are smart enough to see through polarisation even when it is done in the name of good governance. That the government should shift focus to governance and law and order and for god's sake, leave religion to us.

"Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 empowers a magistrate to prohibit an assembly of more than four people in an area. According to sections 141-149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the maximum punishment for engaging in rioting is rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and/or fine. Every member of an unlawful assembly can be held responsible for a crime committed by the group. Obstructing an officer trying to disperse an unlawful assembly may attract further punishment."

Again today they having a huge so called meeting in Adyar Gardens with CM. If prohibitory orders have been imposed, why none of them were taken in or arrested? Very sad Karnataka is going to fall. This tendency must end, I studied in Mangalore and when we were studying we lived together in peace. We had many friends from other religion, We respected each other and lived as one. There was no disaharmony. This is sad that people are getting divided and figthing nowadays. Unless urgent action is taken we may spoil the peaceful atmosphere arround us and our peace will be destroyed and things we may get out of our hand.We must all join together and learn to live as one. Innocent people gets killed in the name of religion. This must stop. Let all social workers elder join together and help to restore peace in our lives. I am praying daily for harmony. Once again we have issues in the 'sensitive' areas. They wont let anybody live in peace. Plus the Govt too is turning a blind eye and deaf ears to the problem , As they want to restore the 'vote bank'.

Under 144 section only murder attempt was done of a innocent person Mr. Sharath. That time where was the police and law. If any thing fight happens govt will deploy police force where it is not required.

Rudolf, what is the Congress government of Karnataka doing from the past 4 years, sleeping?? 7 out of 8 MLA s in the district are from Congress , So if they can't govern let them quit and dissolve the assembly, They are not in the opposition for blame game. Power comes with responsibility. They promised to restore peace in the district if voted to power didn't they?? What action have they taken in the last 4 years of their rule to bring peace ?? To the contrary they have let loose all the goonndas to run havoc

First arrest the politicians. Their main aim is to fan the fires of anger. The police should not allow them to enter this area. They just ignite the fire to the agitation and then disappear from there. They like to fish in troubled waters.
