Bantwal, Jun 16: Additional director general of police (ADGP) of Karnataka, Alok Mohan, has warned of taking strict action against those who foment disturbances by spreading unsubstantiated rumours through social websites.

He was speaking to media persons at the town police station here after inspecting the prevailing situation at Kalladka town, which had witnessed unsavoury incidents in the recent past, on Thursday June 15 evening.

"The department will be initiating steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents. The people should cooperate with the police department in maintaining law and order. We assure you that innocent people will not be arrested, and steps will be taken only against the guilty," he asserted.

The ADGP also said that transparent investigation based on footage of CCTV cameras will be conducted, adding that police officials found to have committed dereliction of duty will also be acted against. About the Puttur incident, he said that investigation is being conducted into it.

There were no fresh incidents of violence in the region on Thursday.

All the 18 accused, who were arrested, were produced in the court on Thursday June 15. All of them were remanded to judicial custody.

A meeting under the guidance of western range inspector general of police, Harishekaran, and attended by district superintendent of police (SP), Bhushan G Borase, additional SP, Vedamurthy, deputy SPs, Raveesh and Bhakar Rai, circle inspectors, Manjaiah and Mahesh Prasad, as well as probationary IPS officer, Nagesh D L, was held on Thursday too.
