Goa text book row: BJP has insulted national anthem, says Congress

Panaji, Jun 9 (IANS): The BJP-led coalition government in Goa has insulted the national anthem by erroneously printing an incomplete version of it in some Class II Marathi books published by the State Education Department, the Congress in the coastal state alleged on Thursday.

Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar said the government should now rectify the error and fix accountability for the same.

"Incomplete national anthem on Gomant Bharti books is an insult to the national anthem itself. It is the responsibility of the government to fix accountability and act," Kawthankar told IANS.

The Gomant Bharti Class 2 Marathi books for this academic year carried the national anthem minus the last line "Jaya he, Jaya he, Jaya he".

When asked for comment, state's Education Director Gajanan Bhat told IANS: "It is not possible. I will get it checked up. It may have happened in one-odd copy."
