Vijayapura: Honour killing - 21-year-old pregnant woman burnt alive

Vijayapura, Jun 5 (DHNS): In a case of honour killing, a 21-year-old pregnant woman was burnt alive by her family members for marrying outside her religion in Gundakanala village of Muddebihal taluk in Vijayapura district on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Banu Begum. She had eloped to Goa with Sayabanna Sharanappa Konnur from Valimiki caste and married him. Konnur also sustained injuries in the ghastly incident and is battling for life in a hospital.

Banu and Konnur hail from the same village and had fallen in love. Banu’s family was against the relationship. The family members had lodged a case against Konnur under the Pocso Act with the Talikote police.

However, two days after lodging the complaint, Banu eloped with Konnur to Goa and both of them returned to the village four days ago, after getting married at the sub-registrar’s office in Muddebihal, police said.

After an enquiry, the police dropped Pocso case against Konnur. After coming to know of this, the relatives of Banu stabbed her and set her ablaze. They also assaulted Konnur and set him afire.

The police have arrested Banu’s mother, sister, brother-in-law and brother in connection with the incident.

Her two other elder sisters and brothers are absconding, DySP Prabhugouda Patil said

What a heartless family. What is important ,honour of a family or happiness of their children?Of course their daughter had eloped with her lover, later to get marrie d because she knew they wouldnt allow her to marry him.she did a mistake..who doesnt do it ?That doesnt mean should be killed toreset the honour of a family do they have any if they do so?when a cow goes to a neboughers garten to graze ,we dont kill it because it did a mistake.Better forget and forgive,.She will be responsible for her luck or any problems.Just welcome her because she is come back to you ,and forget things. One should l,earn to forget and forgive. Now they killed two lives. Are they really happy? No blood connection at all?Now that blood will cry to heaven.Be prepared to answer the God above ,Terrific act. They should also get the same punishment. No mercy.May the souls of deceased rest in heaven in peace.

Good lesson to the couple and the parents for their greediness and non sense actions / attacks...
Recently Kerala court passed a judgement, that the willingness of the parents of the girl is a must in such marriages... why such rules are not followed ?????????? let the lunatic boys and girls take note of such things in future .....

anybody object my opinion to kill all the folks who were involved in the similar manner. Stab them in public and set them on fire. Let this be a lesson for future generation. How cruel to kill a 21-year-old pregnant woman ... OMG. I feel pity why they returned form Goa. Any ways, they have taken the extreme step of eloping and marrying. they should have lived there only, at least they would have ben alive. Very cruel community which can kill their daughter just because she married other religion guy. So, once again, my question remains open... anybody object my opinion to kill all the folks who were involved in the similar manner, in public.

Finding honor in getting jailed for murder To be considered as rarest of rare case and award them death. Killers of humanity does not deserve to live in this planet earth. May their souls rest in peace.

This what happens when we set our priority on religion over humanity.
Religion are the beleifs which one may follow to develop their culture and traditions. Religion has got nothing to do with the spirituality or God.

I do not blame only the family. Relatives / people surrounding them must have definitely provoked this family to do such heinous act . High time to change the teaching pattern in all religious institutions. Need to raise your voice now against culture and teachings and double standards.
