Muscat: Sunil Furtado elected 26th president of MCCP

Muscat, May 30: The 25th year executive committee of Mangalorean Catholic of the Parish (MCCP), under the leadership of Dilip Correa, presented the 25th Annual day on May 26. Sunil Victor Furtado was elected as the 26th president of MCCP during the annual day.

Sunil Furtado, a multi-talented personality who exemplifies humility, simplicity and spirituality in his service to the community in various fronts, has taken over the leadership of MCCP for the year 2017 – 2018.

Sunil is the last among the nine children of Joseph and Josephine Furtado from Barkur parish in Udupi diocese. After completing his primary education in Barkur, he moved to Mumbai, where-in he graduated majoring in Physics. He went on to pursue his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing & Systems from T A Pai Management Institute. After his stint in Mumbai, he joined the prestigious Saud Bahwan Automotive Group in Muscat, where he currently holds the post of Senior Manager.

Sunil was the honorary treasurer for MCCP in the year 2015-16 and currently is the vice pesident of Mangalorean Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Church, Ghala. He has been actively involved in various forums that promote growth and development of individuals as well as the community at large. Being an excellent orator himself, he has been able to make his presence felt and drive home the point that he intends to make. No doubt that he has held various posts in the Toastmasters Club. He forays into acting as well and his recent enactment of Jesus in the Passion of Christ tableau at Ghala parish was highly appreciated and considered as a powerful and extremely moving on-stage performance.

Sunil is married to Sunita, who is a multi-faceted personality herself and they are blessed with two sons Johan and Zephan, who are students of ISM.

The 25th Annual day began with a thanks-giving solemn Mass at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church Ruwi. Fr. Marian Miranda was the main celebrant of the mass. The angelic choir was lead by Apolinaris D’souza. A large number of faithful attended the holy mass.

A cultural programme was held at the Ruwi church Parish hall with a welcome dance on the song ‘Parameshwara’ which was composed by Oswald D’souza and Walter Monteiro during the time of Inception of MCCP. It was beautifully choreographed by Prameela Pais and was presented by the young dancers: Rochelle Correa, Christine Danti, Mayola Pais, Clarita Saldhana, Pearl Lewis and Leanne Alva.

Nirmal Goveas, a very vibrant and cheerful multitalent of the Mangalurean community of Muscat, who is a very well known compeer, Konkani writer and singer compeered the first part of the programme.

Raphael D’Souza, proprietor of Muscat Golden Services LLC was the Chief Guest of the programme and he was welcomed by Dilip Correa with a floral bouquet.

Fr Marian Miranda, Spiritual Director of MCCP prayed to the almighty to bless the occasion.

Dilip Correa in his presidential speech expressed his gratitude to all the members for their support throughout the silver jubilee year. The executive committee under the leadership of this dynamic leader conducted 29 programmes keeping the all-round development and entertainment of the members along with notable charitable works.
‘Gumta Podh’ a traditional Mangalurean series of songs were presented by artists from Dubai consisting of Dony Correa, Asha Correa, Dinesh Correa, Veena Mendonca, Cleevan Mendonca, Delson Dsilva and Vincy Lobo. The crowd was overwhelmed with this unique performance and thoroughly enjoyed this rare chance of seeing this olden day’s tradition of Mangalore.

Melita Alva, General secretary presented the Annual report for the year 2016-2017 highlighting the various activities and noble charitable works done to mark this special Silver Jubilee year of MCCP. The report was accompanied with a PowerPoint presentation with photographs of the events to make this a very interactive session.
Rolson Cardoza & Joel Almeida, young and talented actors of the community presented a very heart touching act called ‘Love Yo Parents’ which presented a very special message to love our parents. It was indeed a very emotional skit and was well appreciated by the audience.

Team 25 along with the Chief Guest, Mr. Raphael D’souza honored the various persons who helped in organizing the cultural programmes for the whole year. Trescilla Menezes, Internal Auditor read the list for honouring. Compeers, Choreographers, Skit co-ordinators, DJ’s, Choir organizer, Food arrangers , Judges and all the Volunteers with a token of appreciation and a gift by the Chief Guest.

Konkani Kinkule –a beautiful dance by the Tiny tots was choreographed by a young talent, Lizzy Barboza and staged by Nathan D’souza, Tania Saldanha, Michelle Pinto, Gloria Barboza, Anisha Dcosta, Ashvitha Cutinho, Harleen Pinto, Laura D’sa, Francesca Colaco, Delishya D’souza. Lizzy Barboza was presented with a memento by Dilip Correa.

Lavina D’sa, Vice President for Cultural, Spiritual and Community Services for the 25th year invited on to the stage, Dilip Correa, President and Jessie Pereira, Vice President of Sports and Finance to honour the sponsors. President Dilip Correa also honoured the core committee of MCCP, Stanley Fernandes, Donald Pinto and Clarence Pinto, with a floral boquet. Edward Mendonca, newly elected Mangalorean representative for the Parish Council of Ghala Parish was also honoured with a floral Boquet. Team 25 also showed their gratitude to the Ruwi parish Church staff and Precilla Menezes for serving the MCCP as the website administrator. Monica Fernandis will be the new website administrator for the forth coming years.

‘Amchyabapa’ a dance to the song composed by Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus was presented by Dony Correa, Dinesh Correa, Vincy Lobo and Cleevan Mendonca who were artists from Dubai specially flown in for the 25th Annual Day.

He also presented a floral bouquet to the spouses of members of the Executive committee: Sandra Correa, Vivian Pereira, Sunil D’sa, Melvin Menezes for standing by the executive committee.

Fr Marian Miranda was presented with a momento for being the guiding light of the team as the spiritual director of MCCP.

A very nostalgic moment was when a video on the Journey of MCCP through the Silver Jubilee year was played. It was specially prepared by Rolson Cardoza and brought back from the memory lane various events conducted by Team 25 during the Silver Jubilee year.

Team 25 presented a thanksgiving song which expressed their gratitude to the community for their support throughout the 25th Year. It was directed by Apolinaris D’souza and the music was arranged by Triven Goveas. Following which they announced the symbolic closure of the Silver jubilee year, by covering the symbol of the 25th year, the lamp which was lit throughout the Silver Jubilee year .

Naveen Mascharenhas, Spiritual Secretary said the grace before meals and Dilip Correa presented the Jevnak Udak. Traditional Mangalorean Lunch was served to the audience.

After Lunch Lavina D’sa announced the winners of the Photography contest, Valentines Message contest, Quiz Contest and Highest Blood donor. Dilip Correa presented the trophies to the winners.

The election for the executive committee of MCCP for the year 2017-18 was conducted by the members of the core committee of MCCP along with Fr. Marian Miranda. Based on the nominations the team that will shoulder the responsibilities for the 26th year of MCCP are:

The outgoing president Dilip Correa presented a floral bouquet and files to the new President Sunil Futardo. The new president, Sunil Futardo in his address to the audience said that with humility and modern ideas they will steer MCCP into a fresh and new 26th year. Team 25 welcomed and handed over their portfolios to the Team 26.

The main highlight of the day was a drama ‘Vishenthiche Bhav’ scripted by Chafra Decosta which was staged by very talented actors Dony Correa, Dinesh Correa, Cynthia Pinto,Veena Mendonca, Delson Dsilva, Cleevan Mendonca, Vincy Lobo, Kethan Dsouza and Asha Correa. After many years the Mangalorean Community in Muscat had a chance to see this one of a kind drama which revealed various aspects of the storyline with suspense, comedy and action. The acting by all the actors was par excellence and kept the audience glued to their seats. Dilip Correa presented the artists with a memento.

Lavina D’sa, conducted the Housie-Housie in co-ordination with Sachin Lobo, Lynel Lobo and Naveen Francies Mascharenhas. She also proposed the Vote of Thanks. Team25 expressed their gratitude to various persons who helped to organize the Annual day. DJ Loveline provided the music, Rolson Cardoza organized the power point presentation and video of the Silver Jubilee year events, Henry-Gracy Castelino prepared the Mangalorean special Pork, Lancy Lobo and team organized decorations and stage setting. Raphael Dsouza, Sunil Dsouza, Sharon Alva, Violet D’Costa and Merita Pinto volunteered as backstage and audience support. Remy Lobo supported with the special seating arrangements. Joachim D’souza was the official photographer of the day.

The curtains for the Silver Jubilee year of MCCP came down with the singing of the traditional ‘Laudate Domino’. MCCP looks forward to another exciting year with Team 26.

Team 25 is greatly indebted to their sponsors, well wishers and supporters. Without their backing it wouldn’t have been possible to make this Silver Jubilee year an exciting and memorable year. They also salute the spirit of unity among the members throughout this year and for their overwhelming responses to the various activities conducted. We pray to the almighty to keep MCCP united in the year to come and look forward to a fresh new year of MCCP lead by the new executive committee for the year 2017-18.
