Mangaluru: Woman hailing from Bajpe, husband shot dead in US

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 5: A lady hailing from Bajpe here and her husband were shot dead by a young man in the US on Wednesday May 3 night.

Naren Prabhu, Juniper Networks VP of Engineering and his wife Raynah were shot dead by 24-year-old Mirza Tatlic, who was allegedly the ex-boyfriend of the couple's daughter Rachel. Raynah was the daughter of Lila Sequeira of Karambar, Bajpe, who is now living in Bandra, Mumbai.

The incident took place in the couple's house at Laura Ville Lane in San Jose. The suspect was later shot dead by the police.

As per reports, Rachel was dating Mirza but the relationship had ended last year. As Mirza continued to pester her, the family had obtained a restraining order against the youth.

Naren and Raynah Prabhu

On Wednesday night, the police received a call from the couple's 20-year-old son that Mirza had shot his parents at their house. When the police arrived at the spot, they found Naren Prabhu lying dead in the front doorway, said San Jose police chief Eddie Garcia in a news conference outside the police headquarters.

"The suspect had been in a dating relationship with the victims' adult daughter (Rachel) who was not home," Eddie Garcia told reporters, adding that the relationship ended last year.

"San Jose police department got a call from the adult son of the victims saying a suspect had shot his parents. When officers arrived at the home on Laura Valle Lane they saw an adult man deceased in the front doorway suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers learned from the adult son that his mother and 13-year-old brother, along with the suspect, were still inside the house. In addition, the adult son thought his mom had been shot," the chief said.

A stand-off ensued between the police and Mirza, and SWAT team was called in. "As officers were setting up contain and arrest teams, the suspect released the 13-year-old boy," Garcia said.

At one point, Tatlic used the 13-year-old boy's cell phone to call Rachel, who lives in another US state. He also used the boy as a human shield, reports said.

Mirza refused to surrender and pointed his gun at the officers. Fearing for the lives of fellow officers and victims, at least one round was fired by an officer striking the suspect, Garcia added. Thereafter, when the police entered the house, they found the two victims and the suspect lying dead.

"We were dealing with someone who was mentally ill," the police chief said.

Tatlic was struggling to find work, and was often seen walking around without a shirt on and was described as 'troubled', reports said.

My heartfelt condolences to the surviving children of this lovely family, and the victims other near and dear ones.

I have been reading a some unwarranted and crude comments directed at the Prabhu family. Mangalore was once noted for gossip and innuendo and many a young lady, or a young couple or even entire families have been affected by what i call Mangalorean Hypocrisy.

This was a tragedy that could have been avoided if ( and I do not know the facts) family, friends and Police had taken this mentally sick individual's threats seriously. Remarks directed at the victims and the children about better behavior and bringing up etc., are completely unnecessary and uncouth. Keep your ridiculous remarks to yourselves and show some respect to the family.

Now it looks to me like they did not open the door but accused was waiting for Naren to come back from work or an outing. A black SUV, which is probably being driven by the accused with door open was parked very close to the house & was towed the next day which means the assailant was possibly following Naren for a couple of days or he was aware of he time of latter coming back from work. SUV parked very close to the house with door open hints at the possibility that the driver was in a hurry which means he was waiting for the door to be opened.

You need to grow up rather than blaming Ladies..... Man you don't have a family of ur own or what??? If I gun is pointed at a woman doesn't mean she can play it intelligently.... Immature talks, be realistic and stop blaming woman in our society, be a man n support them.... You are no less than that off the others we see in the daily news

Wanton materialism and falling moral & spiritual values have led to this unhappy situation, wherein people with troubled minds have nowhere to turn to, to soothe their disturbed hearts and minds. This perhaps leads them to resorting to violence.

Hope we, in India, learn to appreciate the importance of high moral, spiritual and human values to lead a happy & contented life. Disturbed minds & hearts need close family members' moral and financial support as well as counselling, to enable them to lead a normal life.

Sad that such a situation has arisen. May the souls of Naren & Raynah rest in peace.

    @ Guru/M'lore,

No where in my point of view, I drawn our honorable PM in the matter to address the issue individually(though media is keep tend to give credit to him personally for all the good things, so be it..., ), but such hype/perception probably would have even prompted you to take/consider my unbiased views the way even you don't like or want to take. Let us agree on one point that, Hindustan govt's diplomatic machinery should work towards addressing these issues of Hindustan Diaspora working/living in US, who ever may be PM..., having said that do you mean to say or remotely indicate that the shouting crowd at Madison square was insane...., may be i read too much from such media powered event..., with all humility let me correct such notion for good ...,

I don't/can't stop your interpretation about my logic..., I just put across my point of view..., for sure i can't prevail over your intelligence or intellectual ability & capability..., I am a humble, patriotic & proud citizen of Hindustan.., and i continued to be so till my last breath...,

RIP Naren & Raynah. The daughter must have been dating him while he was doing well. He must have lost his job, finding it difficult to get one & did not have any purpose in life. Cost of living in San Jose area is very high. Daughter moving to different state & restraining order must have put him into the edge.

There are 2 sides to the coin, lawless & criminals get hold of the gun irrespective of the law banning guns, while those who want to defend themselves if banned will be defenseless just like in this incident.
This incident is carbon copy of the movie "Fear".
Girls in any country should be careful when dating or befriending whom they pick up in parties & clubs is the moral here.
