Kasargod: Police arrest six for brutal killing of murder-accused, hunt on for two others

Kasargod, May 4: The Kumble police have arrested six accused in connection to the murder of Abdul Salam, who was found dead with his head severed in a desolate spot at Peruvad, Kumble on April 30.

The arrested are Siddique (39), a resident of Badriyanagar, Umar Farooq K S (29), a resident of Peral, Saheer (32) of Peruvad, Niyaz (31) of Peral, Haris (29) of Arikkady, and Lathif (36), a resident of Maliyangara Kota.

Among them, Siddique was an accused in the murder of BMS worker and auto driver Dayanand, but he was acquitted later.

Umar Farooq is an accused in a murder that took place following a clash over a football game in Kumble.

Two of the accused in the Abdul Salam murder case are still at large, and a hunt for them is on.

It is learnt that the above accused surrendered before the police on Tuesday May 2, and after questioning, were arrested on Thursday May 4.

The police have recovered the weapons used in the crime, which include two sickles and a sword.

After committing the crime, the accused, in order to destroy evidence, set fire to their blood-stained clothes and other belongings in a graveyard near Kuntageradka, police have learnt.

It is said that on April 29, the night before the murder, Abdul Salam had visited Siddique's house and allegedly spoken abusively with his wife and mother. Siddique who was angry at this allegedly plotted to kill Salam, sources said.

Thereafter, on Apri 30, four persons including Salam were returning from Siddique's house when they were detained by the police on allegations that they were looting commuters at night. However, as nobody came foward to file official complaint, they were released the same afternoon.

In the evening, Siddique reportedly called Salam and offered to end their differences. He has Salam to meet him at a spot near Peruvad. Salam along with his accomplice Naushad went to the spot, where Siddique and the other accused were lying in wait. The gang led by Siddique allegedly attacked the duo, slaying off Salam's head and grievously injuring Naushad.

Police said that sand mafia was the real reason behind the crime.
