Kasargod, Apr 30: A person was found brutally murdered at Kumble here on Sunday April 30. The head of the victim, severed from the body, was found a short distance from the crime spot.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Salam (32), a resident of Peruvad, Kumble. He was an accused in a murder case.
Salam's accomplice Naushad, a resident of Badriyanagar, was found grievously injured and has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
The murder took place in a deserted spot near Melangara Kote in Kumble.
It is said that four persons inclduding Abdul Salam and Naushad were found moving about suspiciously in an auto rickshaw on Sunday afternoon, and were detained by the Kumble police. The police, on receiving informatin that some persons were threatening and robbing commuters at night took the four into custody, it is learnt.
After questioning, they were released at around 2 pm.
It was then that Salam was murdered, police said.
It is said that on Saturday April 29 night, Abdul Salam and his gang barged into a house and created trouble.
The police found a bike fallen at the crime spot and another bike parked nearby. An auto rickshaw was also found parked close by.
Primary investigation has revealed that while the four were sitting at Melangara Kote consuming alcohol, a gang attacked them. It is suspected that the murder might have been committed through contract killers.
Police sources also said that personal enmity was the cause for the murder.
Police are also investigating whether sand mafia could be involved, as, a few days ago, sand transporters were threatened and looted by a gang, police said.
Salam was an accused in the murder of Shafique (25), a resident of Peral Kumble, that took place in 2014. Salam was accused of killing Shafique and then burying his body under a pile of sand near an under-construction house.
He was also accused of setting fire to a new Innova car, police said.
Police officials visited the spot and investigations are on.
