Mangaluru: Star-studded Coastal Premier League cricket tourney kicks off

Mangaluru, Apr 11: This season of cricket, as fans wallow in unrestrained excitement, residents of Kudla have the fun doubled with the maiden edition of the star-studded Coastal Premier League (CPL) kicking off on Tuesday, April 11.

Coastalwood Premier League is in progress for the first time, with stars of Tulu cinema, who are otherwise seen on the silver screen giving life to the characters they portray and dancing to the tunes of songs and music, now swinging the cricket bat and sweating it out on the field.

CPL is being held from April 11 to April 15 at Nehru Maidan. It is a tussle between Tulu film artistes. Besides actors, directors, producers and technical staff are participating in the tournament.

Actors Arjun Kapikad, Roopesh Shetty, Asthik Shetty, Pruthvi Ambar, Shravan Kadri, Saurabh Bhandary, Prakash Shetty Dharmanagara, Anoop Sagar and others can be seen as star players.

The attention of film lovers has turned naturally towards them. Senior artistes and producers will also take part.

The auction of players was held on March 15 at Forum Fiza mall. Glitz Gladiators owned by Tushar Suratkal and Royal Rangers of Mustafa Kaikamba will also take part in it.

The eight teams divided into two pools of 4 teams each will play three matches and three teams from each pool will qualify for the knock out stage. The teams placed at the top will directly qualify to the semi-finals.

RJ Anurag compered the programme. Devdas Kapikad, Arvind Bolar, Bojaraj Vamanjoor, Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Arjun Kapikad, RJ Roopesh, DK Youth congress president Mithun Rai, and former mayor Mahabala Marla were present on occasion, among others.


Matches will be played according to the schedule below:


April 11- Kodialbail Challengers vs Kadandale Tigers, Brand Vision Tuskers vs Glitz Gladiators and Royal Rangers vs Tulunad Panthers.

April 12 - Glitz Gladiators vs Kalkude Lions, Brand Vision Tuskers vs Jugari warriors, Royal Rangers vs Kodialbail Challengers and Tulunad Panthers vs Kadandale Tigers.

April 13 - will be between Glitz Gladiators vs Jugari Warriors, Kalkude Lions vs Brand vision tuskers, Tulunad Panthers vs Kodialbail Challengers and Kadandale Tigers vs Royal Rangers.

April 14 - The qualifier matches will be held between Jugari warriors vs Kalkude lions qualifiers. The first match will be between A2 vs B3. The second match will be between B2 vs A3.

April 15 - Semi-final matches between A1 vs Q1, semi-final 2 will be between B1 vs Q2. The finals will be held from 4 pm until the end of the match.

    IPL model with four Karnataka Ranaji level players and rest from DK with proven cricket performance would have been a better entertainment and an opportunity for budding players aspiring national level! Our Colleges and schools in DK may have enough quality players to give good entertainment, though DK is unlucky to have dedicated intl standard cricket ground.

    This is not a serious cricket. It is being played for fun and entertainment and to see and watch our cricket cum film stars though they are not well versed with bat and ball.

    Looks like a flop show! Only players and actors, no audience at all. Do not try to copy from someone, instead be original, bring some own ideas, during this IPL season, this show will be a big flop, i bet
