Mangaluru: PM Modi's visit to Israel will be disastrous to India, says P V Mohan

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru
With Inputs from Media Release

Mangaluru, Apr 9: P V Mohan, AICC member, has expressed his dismay over the decision of the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Israel, which 'no Prime Minister so far in the past has done'.

"It is really unfortunate. The Prime Minister’s visit to Israel will be disastrous for India. The idea of India which was built by Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru will be severely damaged by the foreign policy of the present government. The deviation of India's policy is going to have adverse effects both domestically and overseas."

In a press statement released on Sunday April 9, he said, "India was never a supporter of Israel. India voted against Israel's induction into the United Nations. Israel is an occupier. India's support to Palestine has a history. India supports inalienable rights of the Palestinians people. India had always taken up anti-colonial struggles. India was one of the first nations to recognize Palestine's cause and it was the first non-Arab state to recognise the Palestinian Liberation Organisation as the sole, legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in 1974.

"India should have realized that we get the bulk of our energy from the Arab world, millions of Indians work in Middle East and they send billions in remittance. The Arabs have been an ally for several causes for which India as a country stood and fought for. There have been many occasions when the Arabs came to the rescue of our country as an ally. One cannot forget the non-allied policy which Jawaharlal Nehru led for the world and Indira Gandhi cemented it further. One cannot forget Col Abdul Nazer of the then Egypt disallowing any Portuguese ship to negotiate through Suez Canal to attack Goa when it was getting liberated. One cannot forget the thousands of Indians working in Arab countries who are generally treated well. One cannot forget the present times when Trump is trying to block Indians working in the US, thanklessly indeed, for all the work that the Indians have done in the last two decades for the development of American Information Technology," he said.

"In fact, an Arab backlash can be unthinkable and miserable in comparison with an American backlash by Trump in the field of employment of Indians. Therefore, it is necessary that all right-thinking people warn the Prime Minister, rather express a demand on the Prime Minister to give up the idea of visiting Israel. One only hopes the Prime Minister will not do hara-kiri for the country," he concluded.

P.V. Mohananna seems to be too much worried about backlash affecting millions of Indians working in GCC. Where were you when thousands were recently deported from KSA without paying salaries, when hundreds are imprisoned or deported on false charges or denied their basic labour rights? Likewise presently there are thousands, if not millions working in Israel with no labour grievances unlike GCC countries. Modiji’s visit to Israel will not only be a matter of pride for our fellow workers in Israel, but also for all Indians in the ME.

The relation between India and Israel is a long standing one. Both India and Israel have enjoyed extensive economic, military, and strategic relationship from the past for so many years. Right from the beginning India has been buying large quantity of military and warfare equipment from Israel.

India wants an overall growth of India and progress in all the fields thereby putting our country on the superpowers list. Though, I am supporter of Congress, but in this case, I whole heartedly support our respected Prime Minister's visit to Israel in order to strengthen bilateral relation and mutual friendship between both countries forever.

There is no doubt in Mr. Modi's leadership and ability and he will be successful in his goal.

I think this guy is still living in the 50ies or 60ies. What Arab backlash? Many Arab countries themselves have good but unofficial relations with Israel. We can learn a lot from them in terms of defending our borders, being self-sufficient in defence and fighting terrorism not to mention agriculture where they have done miracles in the desert. In India we still depend upon rains. Let us learn from Israel how they have turned the desert into a garden of eden. Moreover, this man should understand that it was under recent Congress governments that the defence partnership with Israel was developped.

If we cannot change our position now, it won't change for ever. It is a chance for India to show our Strength from being Weakest to Mightiest. India needs a strong Ally to do that and Israel is one such Country whom we can trust. Now please come out of your Cocoon and open your eyes and embrace the change.

    Mr. Mohan,

    For your Information :

It is TRUE that India stood in Favour of Palestine.

It is TRUE that India has no Foreign Relationship or Embassy in Israel for many years to show solidarity with Palestine.

It is TRUE that it was Yasser Arafat who while visiting India told to our then Prime Minister (Perhaps to P. V. Narasimha Rao) to establish relationship with Israel. He asked PM that if you are not talking with Israel who will tell our grievances to them ? He also told we have issues with Israel but not to you (India). Then our late PM ordered to start an embassy in Tel Aviv.

It is TRUE that Pranav Mukherjee, our President visited Israel recently.

It is TRUE that many Palestinians were going to Israel for jobs and send their kids fitted with bombs into Israel Territory.

It is TRUE that Israel knows to create jobs and Palestinians to pelt stones and grenades.

It is TRUE that Israel occupied the territory of Arab to create Israel and it was History like British ruled India for centuries and broke India into 3 pieces - History can not be reversed. We have to accept it.

It is TRUE that Israel demonstrated to the whole world that how to combat terrorism and demonstrated their guts in bringing the people to justice who done crime to Jews and hiding in other countries - Example of their wonderful tactics is Operation Entebbe. See "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Entebbe"

What you are talking about now ?

What he says is right but he is not updated on the current scenario. If our PM would have visited Israel say about 10 years back there would have been a backlash.

But now many things have changed. While officially Arab position on Israel still remains the same back end lot of Arab countries have started talking to Israel and are no more hostile to them. I think Israel already has diplomatic relations with Jordan and Egypt and other GCC countries are allowing them to enter their countries for all international forums. GCC countries are also secretly talking to Israel and this is because Iran is their common enemy now. Even Pervez Musharaff is calling to change their countries stance towards Israel and establish diplomatic ties saying it is a Israeli-Palestinian conflict not Israeli-Islamic conflict.

Our foreign policy experts are fully aware of it and they wont take this step if they knew that it would jeopardize our relation with the Arab world.

They have their own reason for being so. They may be right for their own reasons. But it's their fight not ours!

Moreover its congress Govt under PV narashimha Rao, who initiated Indian diplomatic ties with Israel.UPA didn't had the audacity to openly pursue ties with Israel, but they also managed to behind the closed doors. Thats no longer the case India is lead by a MAN.Who is clear about diplomatic risk has to be taken to propel the nation to the next level.
