Bantwal, Mar 26: Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), who passed away on March 23, was laid to rest at Infant Jesus Church, Modankap here on Sunday March 26 amid a large number of mourners including friends, family and well-wishers.

Archbishop of Bengaluru Dr Bernard Moras, in his message during the Mass, said, "Fr Patrick Rodrigues was an excellent human being who walked in the path of Jesus Christ and provided the best in healthcare service for the people."

Drawing parallels between Fr Patrick Rodrigues' life and the teachings in the Bible, the Archbishop said that Fr Patrick set an example for all.

Mangaluru bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, who is also the head of the governing body of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, led the holy Mass.

Kalaburagi bishop Dr Robert Miranda, who was close to Fr Patrick, paid homage to the departed soul. He recalled the work and services Fr Patrick had rendered during his stints at St John Medical College and during the 10 years of his tenure as director of FMCI. "Though he was suffering from illness for the past two years, he rendered excellent service to the Institution and to the society," Dr Miranda said.

Udupi bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, former bishop of Mumbai Patrick Percival Fernandes (retired) vicar general of Mangaluru diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, FMCI administrator Fr Richard Coelho, Father Muller Medical College administrator Fr Ravi Rudolf D'Sa, Father Muller Thumbay administrator Fr Roshan Crasta and many other priests and nuns were present, along with MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza and others.

Officials, staff and students of Father Muller Institutions and scores of well-wishers bid a tearful adieu to Fr Patrick Rodrigues.

Between 1 pm and 3.30 pm, the mortal remains were kept for public viewing at Modankap where thousands of people paid their last respects.

Very very sad. Fr. Patrick was a fantastic priest, administrator & a director. He always remained as a role model in whatever he did. Fr. Patrick was very humble, caring & spiritual in his ways. He was a main pillar of St. John's Medical College & Hospital & College of Nursing along with Fr. Perci Fernandes. Also he continued with his exceptional leadership & management qualities whilst being the Director of Fr. Muller's. I was fortunate to know Fr. Patrick at St. John's. He always had a smile on his face. Our love & respect, especially from the people who came pouring out to say their last good bye to Fr. Patrick shows what a great priest & an extraordinary human being he was. Fr. Patrick you will be sadly missed & always fondly remembered. Let Fr. Patrick's soul rest in peace in Lord's hands.

I was fortunate to associate closely with Fr. Patrick during our college days. He was a supportive friend and a good companion in those years. The news of his passing away at such an early age is really shocking as I knew him as a healthy young man. May Lord bless him and give him eternal rest.

I have had the privilege of knowing Father Patrick for three decades. He was initially an assistant director of FMCI. He was one of the few to have obtained a Master's degree in U.S.A. in Health Care and Hospital Management. Apart from being a good administrator, Father Patrick was a very kind HUMAN BEING .I had the privilege of meeting him and interacting with him whenever I wished to do so. I had access to his room whenever I wanted to meet him.

Ten years ago He came over and spent a night at my residence before taking charge of FMCI. He knew all my family members. He was a given a warm reception by my children in U.S.A. in Detroit and Maumee, Ohio. His passing away has caused a VOID in my heart. He was loved by the doctors, nurses and the staff of Father Muller's. I join several others in saying AU REVOIR to dear Father Patrick. Good bye dear Father Patrick and UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN OVER THERE.
