Mayawati effect on EVMs? EC to implement VVPAT system in Karnataka bypoll

Daijiworld Media Network - Mysuru (SP)

Mysuru, Mar 21: Voters in Nanjangud assembly constituency are likely to get confirmation about whom they cast their vote for, immediately upon pressing the button in the electronic voting machine. It is almost certain that newly introduced Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines will be put to trial during the coming bypoll at this constituency.

District deputy commissioner, D Randeep, who happens to be the district election officer for the bypoll being held at Nanjangud on April 9, said that the Election Commission is desirous to put the said machines to use in all the 238 polling booths in Nanjangud assembly constituency. He added that use of VVPAT machines during the said bypoll is almost certain.

Under this process, immediately after the voters press the button located against the candidates of their choice, they get details of the vote they cast, in the form of a small chit. The voter can go through this slip to confirm who they voted for. Within seconds, the chit is swallowed back by the machine. There is no provision to take this chit home.

This system addresses worries of some people who keep complaining after losing the election that the votes cast by their supporters to them had gone to their opponents. Returning officer for Nanjangud assembly constituency, G Jagadeesh, pointed out that these machines were put to use in some of the polling booths during Uttar Pradesh assembly election held recently. It may be recalled that after the poll debacle, several leaders including BSP chief Mayawati had claimed that the electronic machine settings had been altered to ensure that votes polled to different candidates went into the kitty of the ruling party candidate.

Equipping electronic voting machines with VVPAT system will help to regulate electroral irregularities. The Election Commission of India plans to use this system for all the elections being held in the country henceforth. It has been seeking financial allocation for shifting to this system from the central government. The Commission, it is said, is keen to use this system in Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in 2019.

Whichever candidate aggrieved by EVM can go to court on a specific case and court can order verification of EVM's. They can do it wherever VVPAT system was there and get it verified. why to give political color without any substantial proof ? Simply blaming technology will not serve the purpose. Paper ballot was also having its own shortcomings.

1.Why did EVM result need one and half month to be waited in the just conclude assembly elections for certain states which polled in the beginning?
2.In Goa all the constituency VVPAT has been used. Why do EC need to wait for so long to announce election results coincide with Holi festivity?
3.Is deliberate to delay election results from EC to accommodate government forming which BJP is not in majority?
4.Why the EC not thought of reusing the EVM announcing the result first and reusing the next state assembly segment?
5.How many EVM's machine are randomly tested prior to voting in each state and VVPAT figures tally with EVM post result?
6.If EVM's are maintained by the third party on contractual basis ,how safe is EVM from tampering which developed country like Germany outlawed,Ireland scrapped and Netherland dumped after demo of hacking?
7.How does EVM can produce 'zero' result for independent candidate in BMC election?
8.If EVM found tampered and election are rigged, what does the constitution of India and EC ruling say?

Indian democracy is cumbersome process. No digital technology even end to end transcript is full proof. Citizens of India demand 'paper ballot'.

Just because BJP lost the Bihar election, BJP started manipulated the EVMs so that BJP do not loose the important election. It is near impossible for BJP to secure such a landslide win in spite of common people experiencing such difficulties due to note ban and yet people voting them and winning all the seats in UP and Jarkhand. Supreme court should examine all the EVMs and restore the faith in democracy. Mr Shah while giving victory speech he claimed to form govt. in Goa and Manipur even before counting is over.

Guys, VVPAT or Voter Verified paper trial is not a new concept, it was already implemented in 13 constituencies in recently concluded Punjab elections . And in some constituencies of UP and other states also , Election commission has plans to implement it fully in 2019 general elections and union government has already set aside budget for it. This was a brainchild of Subramanian Swamy after he went to the court on EVMs .

What a Joke !, machines swallows back the chit, means ways for more fraud, in my opinion machine should print the chit ( small paper ), voter can verify it and deposit in a box as ballot paper. In case if there is discrepancy in EVM on result, then the chits deposited in the box can be manually counted for results. Here the machine swallows back the chit means…… think…. !

In the current techno world nothing is safe, everything can be hacked. They should revert back to paper system like what they did in USA and Japan.
