Mangaluru, Mar 16: Continuing the 136-year-old unmatched legacy of contributing its might in Mangaluru’s emergence as an Educational hub St Aloysius group of institutions run by the Jesuit priests has been setting new benchmarks in the educational map of Mangaluru. Managed by Mangalore Jesuits Educational Society (MJES) it has 16 institutions under its management that also includes the 5-year-old St Aloysius Gonzaga School which offers CBSE curriculum. The school is all geared up to celebrate its quinquennial this year and celebratory mood is quite palpable in the campus befitting the occasion. This school has been like a new cog in the wheel of the group’s cherished trajectory and this addition comes at a time when the Aloysius group is marching ahead triumphantly towards the epoch-making post-centenary golden jubilee celebrations.

Though five years is a short time for an educational institution to make any significant headway, St Aloysius Gonzaga School has been an exception. In this short period of five years, the school has created quite an impression and emerged as one of the most sought after schools offering CBSE syllabus in Dakshina Kannada. The school named after St Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron of St Aloysius Institutions has student strength of about 480 and the first of batch of students of the school is now studying in Class IX. Striving to maintain high quality of learning has been the hallmark of Aloysius group of institutions and Gonzaga School too continued to follow in the same tradition. The students of the school have continued this splendid legacy and have showcased their talents in scholastic, non-scholastic and extra-curricular activities.

In a short span of four years the school has won accolades in the form of the British Council international award twice. Skype classroom interactions with students from countries like Romani,Poland, England, Germany, Italy and many such countries has been a part of the academic process at Gonzaga. The school encourages interactions with foreigners who visit the school campus so that students get to know the cultures, customs and traditions of others countries. It is an effort in the right direction to nurture and promote global citizenship. The principal points out, "International British Council connecting classroom activities, online interactive activities with foreign schools and visitors to schools from foreign countries help students of our school get wider exposure and experience that goes beyond the conventional method of teaching. It also boosts their self-confidence and moulds their personality to face the challenges of life."

Fostering Future Citizens

It is said that a ship is only as good as its captain and this is a reality as far as Gonzaga School is concerned. In fact Gonzaga School is fortunate to have the experience and expertise of its founding principal Grace Noronha who has been instrumental in scripting the success story of Gonzaga School. Her vision and experience in managing the new institution has played a key role in its emergence as a top notch school offering quality CBSE curriculum. Needless to say the school has set new trends and benchmarks in terms of offering education in consonance with modern trends and requirements.

In today’s digital world conventional methods of teaching and learning alone are not suffice to equip students to cope with the challenges. Therefore, the students of Gonzaga School are made to think beyond established patterns of learning. The team of committed and talented faculty of the school has been a key factor in Gonzaga School finding its niche in the field of education. The school boasts of a health teach-student ratio and the 27 highly qualified and trained teaching staff and 9 non-teaching staff have played a pivotal role in helping Gonzaga School to find a firm niche in Mangaluru among CBSE schools by adopting perspicuous methods of teaching and learning. Needless to say all the parents and students who, for long had rooted for a CBSE curriculum school from Aloysius Group of Institutions with high expectations are now happy to see the rapid progress achieved by the school. The school has reinforced its position as the numero uno school in Mangaluru offering CBSE syllabus. This has been possible due to the concerted efforts of the management and committed teaching faculty that works as a team to achieve the desired goals.

Vibrant Environment to Learn and Grow

Apart from academic activities Gonzaga School offers extracurricular activities to students to activities like sports and games, art, culture, literature craft and music. The school also offers opportunities to karate, skating, chess, yoga, drawing, dance, instrumental music and other activities related to art and culture so that students with proclivity towards these activities get an opportunity to pursue their interests within the school premises. Students also have the option of opting for clubs like bulbuls and scouts and guides and groom their personality. It is the first school in Dakshina Kannada to introduce the concept of terrace garden in its school premises on its own so that children get to see nature from close quarters.

Gonzaga School has adopted a holistic approach towards education wherein the creative minds of the students are allowed to explore newer avenues and help them reach greater heights. Electronic gadgets and e-learning is the norm in this school and teaching life skills is part of the curriculum. The students are taught life skills like self awareness, empathy, problem solving, creative thinking, decision making, communication, coping with emotions, stress management and to think out of the box. These life skills help the students to cope with life as it moulds their personality and transform them into future leaders and global citizens.

It was in 2012 St Aloysius Gonzaga School became a reality when the MJES responded to public demand to set up a CBSE syllabus in institutions run by the society. Since its inception the school is functioning on the St Aloysius Pre-university campus, wherein all modern infrastructural facilities are provided for the students. A well equipped computer lab, composite science and math lab and a language lab built as per CBSE norms provide the right kind of platform for schools to excel in every sphere of their school and scholastic activity.

The new avant-garde multi-storied school building coming up on the PU campus of the college is in the final stages of construction and the school will operate from the new premises from the next academic year. The new building is planned to be equipped with all modern and futuristic facilities. Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society (MJES) is expecting a generous and helping hand from philanthropists and alumni of Aloysians towards this project. Being a futuristic project the generosity of the people would go a long way in equipping the school with ultra modern facilities on par with international standards.

MJES has been instrumental in scripting Mangaluru’s success story in the field of education and it now here is an opportunity for the people to contribute in their own little way and help the Jesuits to provide top-quality education in Mangaluru.
