Udupi, Mar 14: Former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, who recently joined BJP, was accorded a warm welcome by the party leaders and members at the BJP office at Kadiyali here on Tuesday March 14.

BJP Udupi district president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde welcomed J P Hegde with a bouquet and handed over the party flag to him. This was Hegde's first visit to the district after joining BJP last week.

Speaking to reporters, J P Hegde initially committed a faux pas, talking like he did while in Congress, addressing 'block Congress president' at the start. Realizing his error, he quipped, "It will take some time to change from my memories with the Congress."

Stating that the past with Congress was behind him and he had a new beginning to look forward to in the BJP, he said, "I will move forward retaining the sweet memories and leaving behind the bitter memories.

"Many mediapersons have asked me about my parting with Congress. I want to clarify that I did not leave the Congress, they expelled me. Joining the BJP was an informed decision. I had deliberated the matter thoroughly, and my friends and supporters who have been with me throughout my political career too advised me to do the same. So, in a way, it was their decision too," he said.

He also remembered the late Dr V S Acharya, who was a BJP leader and had served as home minister during BJP's regime in the state.

"When J H Patel was the chief minister, I had put pressure on him to declare Udupi as a district. Today it has seen a lot of development, which otherwise would not have been possible if it had remained a taluk," he added.

Recalling his association with the current BJP district president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, he said, "Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde was my colleague in JD(S) and we had worked together under Ramakrishna Hegde. So he is a friend. In fact, I have worked with several current BJP members while we were in other parties, so they are not stangers to me. They are my friends."

He also informed at on March 25, several of his supporters and followers will join the BJP formally in the presence of party leaders B S Yeddyurappa and R Ashok in a convention to be organized in Udupi.

Commenting on the 2018 Assembly elections, J P Hegde said, "The BJP aims to win 150 seats in the state. It is my responsibility to ensure that it happens. I will work not only in Udupi but concentrate on building the party in Chikkamagaluru too, where I had worked as MP and where I have several friends and supporters. I will unite them together."

Asked if joining the BJP would result in any shift in his principles, he said, "No, I will always follow the same principles that I have always cherished and followed."

He also said that he would as active in the BJP as he was in the Congress.

"I will speak in detail in a press meet next week," he concluded.

Former MLA Raghupati Bhat, member of working committee Udaykumar Shetty, district BJP Mahila
Morcha president Sheela K Shetty, Dinakar Babu, Suresh Shetty Kadur, Yashpal Suvarna and Naveen Kutyaru were present.

How long JP will stay in BJP. Any how he lost his credit by joining anti poor and anti national BJP. I am sure he will learn a good lesson soon and will be like "Gadha na gali ka na ghat ka".

Senior leaders in Congress have been denied respect by Congress High Command..Good example..Sri S.M.Krishna.. When he was Foreign Affairs Minister, he went to meet Rahul Gandhi after US trip.. Our Pappu, without even turning his face from laptop, spoke to him carelessly...This guy did not even think that S.M.Krishna was one of the Pillars of Congress.. Like this many bitter things happened to Krishna Sir.. Finally, very soft spoken, loyal Krishna decided to quit Congress Party..and Modiji welcomed him with open heart..I think media reported only few senior leaders who left Congress and joined BJP...There are many in North East State.. Manipur victory is a proof for that..
Mr.J.P.Hegde's entry will give additional support to BJP ..He too is simple and loyal person like S.M.Krishna..

Independent,Janata dal,Congress and now BJP. JP Hegde has change all the parties in his career as a politician.
Hegde is the self made man very well know among his constituency. He too has fallen to the greed of politics of money power for identity politics.
Once known for his secular image is know surrender to communal party of India.

Hegde should know there is always misunderstanding in every house. If everybody takes the way like Mr.Hegde did it will disintegrate into chaos.

If changing party is the only alternate and BJP does the same thing which party will he opt for? Is tainted Raghupati Bhat will be replaced by BJP as official candidate?

I was a staunch admirer of JP Hegde and walked along with him for his election campaign when he was in janatha dal, then in congress but he may have some bitter memories but with the people who has bitterness towards minorities how he is going to digest that sweet poison. Yeddi is the most corrupt person our motherland India has ever seen in her whole life, how he is going to accept him as leader, when I see SM Krishna or JP Hegde I don't feel any difference, both enjoyed all the perks in congress whereas in BJP what they will get more. I am sure JP Hegde would have neem given MP seat in coming elections what BJP has offered him now. how he can ask for MLC seat that means if I fail him one area I want others position too, then what about other who is worked for party , those who dedicated their life for the sake of party, they too should get chance.

BJP's policy of USE AND THROUGH' will tarnish the image of jayprakassh hegde. Yeddy might have promised him a mp seat or minster in the state. but RSS may not endorse yeddy view. so hegde will be used only for state election and will be sidelined after the election is over.

Now he no need to bother about donkeys as he already left behind the donkeys so now he only have to do the hard work to bring back BJP to power in Karnataka by winning 150 + seats. then only he can regain his political image which he lost when he joined the congress.
