Sullia, Mar 14: The undertrial who had escaped from Mangaluru district prison in the early hours of March 10 has been caught in Sullia.

Jinnappa Parava (43), a resident of Bolkal House in Gardady village of Beltangady taluk, had jumped over the prison wall between 3.30 and 4 am on March 10. Following his jailbreak, the DIG from Belagavi T P Shesha had visited the prison and taken the jail staff to task. A case of jailbreak was registered in Barke police station.

After an extensive search for the undertrail, the Sullia police led by inspector Sathish Kumar managed to arrest him on Tuesday March 14.

Parava faces a number of cases, including charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act filed in Uppinangady police station in 2015. This case had later been transferred to Beltangady station. Parava was in the prison as an undertrial since 2015. It is gathered that he also faces several other cases including theft. Jinnappa was arrested after being accused of inviting a girl to his home with the promise of providing her a job, and then raping her there on August 19, 2015.
