Bengaluru: Phogat sisters to lead India’s mega women’s self-defence workshop

Dangal, will be the star attractions at India’s biggest self-defence workshop for Women in Bengaluru.

The mega women’s self-defence workshop is being organized by Matru Trust headed by Dr Sudhakar and grand master Aksharat at the Bengalure Palace Grounds on February 25 and 26.

Over 10,000 women are expected to take part in martial arts, self defence and yoga sessions.

The Phogat Sisters will be participating to inspire the women participants on the need to protect themselves. They will address and interact with the women participants on Saturday morning.

Outlining the objective of the Matru Trust, Dr Sudhakar said, “We want to focus on the 3 A’s in life, Aatma-vishwas (self confidence), Aatma-Samaan (self respect) and Aatma-Raksha (self defense).

The self defence techniques will help women tackle tough situations easily.

Registrations for the two-day mega self defence workshop and yoga camp have elicited big response from women and girls of different age categories.

Grand master Akshar will lead the workshop. He said, "Nothing gives more joy than the feeling of empowering thousands of women. The workshop module devised for the two days will help the participants develop mental strength, self defence skills and basic yoga techniques.”

Cities in particular are becoming unsafe and the objective of the workshop is to ensure basic women are trained to take basic precautions from eve-teasers.

Dr Sudhakar, founder Matru Trust explained, “We have seen the spurt in attacks on women, including the one this week by a biker-gang. While it may be impossible to have police patrol everywhere all the time, but empowered women help themselves and others as well. The over 10,000 women who turn up should be able to train, thousands more.”"The trust will continue to work in the direction of empowerment of women in practically every sphere of life. The trust has outlined a calendar of events for the coming months to ensure that apart from defense, skill training, education, employment and self-employment will be undertaken," Dr Sudhakar said.
