Beltangady, Feb 15: Frustrated at the eccentric ways of her husband, a woman jumped into the river and took away her life. The incident happened at Purusharabettu in Belalu in the taluk on the night of Monday February 13.

Nagesh Gowda, who is a native of Ballari district, had come here seeking work. In the course of time, he had got close to Yamuna and married her. The couple, which lived happily for some time, was going through trouble because of Nagesh. After the couple fought on the night of Monday, Yamuna walked out of her home and jumped into the river. Nagesh Gowda stands arrested on the allegation of abetting this suicide.

Nagesh it is said, is heavily addicted to drinks. He always pestered his wife regularly. Fed up by the constant torture suffered at the hands of her husband, Yamuna was fed up with life, it is said.

Yamuna's father, Chandappa Gowda, filed a complaint against Nagesh relating to the above suicide. On the basis of this complaint, Dharmasthala police booked Nagesh and arrested him.
