World Bank, state govt to host Smart City workshop in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 2: Mangaluru City Corporation is all set to organise a two-day state-level workshop on 'Karnataka Smart City Project (KSCP)', in preparation to finalise the action plan for pan city solution, on February 3 and 4 at Hotel Ocean Pearl. The workshop will be jointly organised by the Karnataka government, the World Bank and KUIDFC," revealed the city mayor Harinath.

Addressing media persons here on Thursday February 2, Harinath said, "The workshop will be inaugurated by the minister for urban development Roshan Baig, district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, and minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader.

"I will preside over the function. Chief whip of the Legislative Council Ivan D'Souza; MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; MLA J R Lobo; MLA Mohiuddin Bava; MUDA chairman Suresh Ballal; World Bank task team leader Shashank Ojha and director of KUIDFC, V Ponnuraj will grace the occasion.

"The purpose of the Karnataka Smart City Project preparation workshop is to get all the city's senior management teams from the selected Smart Cities together to brainstorm for the mammoth task of implementing this project. This meet is expected to bring all the senior city officials, World Bank consulting resources, senior officials of the government of Karnataka and KUIDFC together to discuss and finalise the implementation plans and arrangements for the Smart City project of the state," he said.

"This workshop will help in getting all the project activities into perspective, creating a detailed project implementation plan, getting budgetary allocation for individual projects into perspective and putting in place a capacity building and change management plan for the project implementation. The workshop will also bring together all the city officials from various implementing agencies and putting into perspective the common implementation arrangements for the project. This shall facilitate creation of a common smart city road map for all agencies involved in the state's project implementation.

"Delegates from seven city corporations from Karnataka including Bengaluru, Hubballi, Davangere, Shivamogga and Tumakuru will take part in this workshop. Experts from Korea and the World Bank will conduct sessions in this workshop. Mayor, deputy mayor, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation and 60 corporators from the city will participate," the mayor informed.

MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, joint commissioner Gokul Das Nayak, Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
