Mangaluru, Jan 16: In a laudable act of kindness, the Mangaluru taluk panchayat president Mohammed Monu on Monday January 16 rescued an ill woman admitted her to hospital, even as passersby and commuters chose to turn a blind eye to the helpless situation she was in.

The woman had fallen on the roadside and was rolling in distress. While some of the commuters simply drove off, probably not wanting to get entangled with law, pedestrians too walked away.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Monu Malar who was passing by in his government vehicle saw the woman and immediately stopped to help her. The woman, who was lying in the hot sun and finding it difficult to get up, could not even speak properly. She was unable to reply when enquired about her identity and address. The taluk panchayat president, with the help of some persons, guided her to the nearby bus shelter and gave her water. Thereafter, the police were informed.

However, as only one police constable arrived at the spot, it was difficult to take her to her home. Mohammed Monu then took the woman in his vehicle, along with the police constable, to help find her home. It was found that she was a resident near Asaigoli, where she was dropped safely.
