Kundapur, Dec 26: 'Tuje Dayen', an album of Konkani hymns commemorating the golden jubilee of St Pius X Church, Piusnagar, and the silver jubilee of its choir, was released in a splendid ceremony held at the church premises here on Christmas day, Sunday December 25.

Speaking after releasing the CD, Kundapur parish priest Fr Anil D'Souza said, "Language grows when Konkani hymns are created. Any language becomes stronger when art and literature grows. May such attempts continue."

Fr Alfred Barboza, Sastan church parish priest Fr Walter Mendonca, Hosangady Kerekatte church director Fr Xavier Pinto, Katkare Carmel Ashram priest Fr Rayan Pais, Basrur church parish priest Fr Vishal Lobo, Fr A D'Lima, Fr Victor D' Souza, Fr Joseph, Pravin Amrith Martis, Sr Shalet, James D' Mello, Felix D' Souza and others were present.

Felix D' Souza spoke on their behalf.

Rosary Credit Cooperative Society Ltd, Kundapur, Philip and family, Walter, Diana D'Souza and family, Ronald, Navitha Mascarenhas and family of Kolalgiri, Walter, Reshma D'Souza and family, Lena D'Souza and family were also honored on the occasion.

Church choir group sang a prayer song and Sahana Rai performed a welcome dance. Cyprian Mendonca delivered the keynote address. Archibald gave details of the CD. Wilfred D'Souza welcomed. Wilfy D'Lima compered the programme. Teacher Lena Tauro proposed the vote of thanks.

Music competitions were held in the beginning of the programme and the winners were presented prizes.

St Pius X Church was established in the year 1959 and completed its golden jubilee in the year 2009. The choir team was formed in 1990 and last year the team crossed 25 years. To commemorate both the milestones, Felix D’Souza, member of the choir team since three decades, and its current president, took the initiative to bring out the devotional hymns CD and give a platform to new and budding singers. 

Felix D’Souza, Fr Francis Cornelio and Navis Vaz have penned the lyrics and composed the tunes, while Joel Pereira has given the music for the album. There are 13 devotional songs in the audio CD.
