Bengaluru: Shiradi ghat tunnel road gets environment department approval

Bengaluru, Jul 6: PWD minister, H C Mahadevappa, informed that the department of environment has given its clearance for laying a tunnel across Shiradi Ghat. The length of the tunnel will be 19 km.

Replying to legislative council member, Kota Srinivas Poojary, during the question hour, the minister informed that navigation becomes problematic at Shiradi Ghat road during the rains. Therefore, a project report for drilling a tunnel for a distance of 19 km has been prepared, which has also been approved by the department of environment. As the tunnel would be dug in an environment-friendly manner, the environment will not be affected by it he clarified.

The minister said that Shiradi Ghat road has several dangerous turns, which have often been responsible for accidents. Therefore, it has been decided to provide a straight alternative road through the tunnel, he stated.
