Mangaluru, Apr 14: Anti Pollution Drive (APD) Foundation in association with Pana Education will organize 'Vishwa Bhoomi Dina', or Earth Day Mangaluru 2016 on Friday April 22. International Earth Day will be celebrated in a big way on this day with variety of talent competitions for children and series of awareness programmes for the general public.

Earth Day Mangaluru 2016 is being held in partnership with Earth Day Network, Washington, USA, which is the international coordinating agency for all Earth Day events worldwide.

The event will be hosted amidst nature’s splendor in the scenic countryside campus of Pana Pre University College, which is situated behind Mangalore International Airport, Kolambe village, Bajpe on the outskirts of the city.

The event is sponsored by Pana Education, who will also be providing free transport for the students participating in the competitions. The event timings are from 9 am to 6 pm along with lunch and refreshments.


Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. With over a billion people participating in its activities, Earth Day is the world’s largest environmental movement.

On Earth Day 2016, the landmark Paris Agreement is scheduled to be signed by the United States, China, and about 120 other countries. This signing satisfies a key requirement for the entry into force of the historic draft climate protection treaty adopted by consensus of the 195 nations present at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.


Earth Day Mangaluru 2016

This year, APD Foundation and Pana Education plan to celebrate Earth Day by organizing student centered activities in order to sensitize the younger generation to safeguard our planet.

A full day programme for school children is planned with a variety of competitions and fun activities. There will be quiz, elocution, painting, singing and mud Kabaddi competitions for students from 6th to 10th standard. Due to the summer vacations, these are are individual events and not inter-school competitions. Hence any student can participate and win attractive prizes. The contests are co-ordinated by Centre for Integrated Learning, Mangaluru.

There will also be awareness workshops on air pollution, solid waste management and water conservation. The associate activities include green campus tour, painting-a-mural, idea board, film screening, 'Earth Day Pledge' and launching of good air campaign.

All students, teachers, parents and citizens who love the environment are welcome to participate in the event as there are wide ranging activities to appeal to all.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has agreed to extend its co-operation for the event.
