Mangaluru, Dec 9: The residents of Boliyar are living in a state of anxiety following claims that some people have spotted a figure resembling an 'alien'.

As per information gathered from people, the being is the size of a child with human face and speaks an unknown language. Since the people who have seen it say that it is neither an animal nor a human being, the villagers have started to believe that it is an 'alien'.

Mampadi Odakinakatte in Boliyar village has a population of just around 300. All of them have been spending sleepless nights since last Saturday. The place has a temple and a Sri Rama Bhajan Mandir nearby. Just behind lies a thick forest and in front an agricultural field of 3 acres. Most of the houses are located in between.

On Saturday night, Vasanthi, wife of Purushotham who stays near the Mandir, was on her way back home after the Bhajans. She heard some noise from among the bushes beside the road. She thought it was a domestic animal, but Vasanthi was stunned to see the 'alien'-like creature follow her. She says that the creature had the body of a child with human face and its voice resembled a human’s voice, but it spoke an unknown language. The ‘alien’ disappeared suddenly from the spot when Vasanthi was panicking.

Vasanthi ran home with fear gripping her. Her family said it could have been a wild animal.

On Sunday night, Iqbal who lives near the field heard a hitherto unheard voice. When he came out, he saw the ‘alien’, which ran on its two legs like a human being to the temple area. By the time people gathered after Iqbal shouted for help, the ‘alien’ had reached the forest. A search did not yield any result.

People have started returning home by dusk now. They hardly venture out after dark. There are no street lights in the village, but now there is a demand for them. After Vasanthi and Iqbal spotted the 'alien', it has not been seen again. Some youths have been keeping vigil at night to catch the 'alien'. People say as torchlights are used to locate the ‘alien’, it has stopped coming to the village and must be hiding in the forest.

The nearby thick forest has made the search an enormous task. The media which went in search of the 'alien' on Tuesday December 8 night came back after half an hour of futile attempt to go into the forest. A villager named Melwyn says with optimism that sitting at one place waiting in silence will help in spotting the 'alien'.
