Mangalore, Jul 12: Public Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has sought an enquiry into the encounter killing of five people including a Naxalite at Mensasinadadya in Koppa taluk on Tuesdasy July 10.

Dakshina Kannada unit president of PUCL, P B D’Sa stated in a press release that the police were taking great liberties in matters of encounter killings and the state government as of date had lost control over them.

D’ Sa said that the statements of the police and that of the Home Minister M P Prakash made on the floor of the assembly were contradictory and it had to be clarified by the government.

Making a reference to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines, he said a first information report (FIR) should have been immediately registered at the jurisdictional police station.

A public protest meet was called by the PUCL on Thursday, July 12 in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Sitting in the Legislature house, the Home Minister reiterated the report given by the Police Dept. May be some men visited the house of a poor family and left. How can the onslaught of Police questions be answered by these illiterate dwellers and is it lawful to shoot them point blank and the and call it an 'encounter'?

In fact such incidents would motivate Naxalism. The so called Naxalites flee away and innocents are slaughtered by the Police just for face saving.

Rather amusing indeed!! When the Naxalites create violence it is no human rights violation but when the Police act it is a serious cause of concern for such humanists. After all it is easy to sit coolly in urban centers , call press conferences , issue statements and provoke people and send them to forests in the name of "doctrines". After all people in such organisations dont loose anything doing this because they dont have to loose their cool comforts.
