Mangaluru: 22 Ursuline Franciscan Sisters profess vows

Media Release

Mangaluru, Apr 26: It was a special day in the life of 22 Sisters of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters as they professed three vows namely chastity, poverty and obedience in the presence of Sr Doreen D’Souza, Superior General during the solemn Eucharistic celebration at St Vincent De Ferrer Church, Valencia recently.

The Mass was officiated by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore and was concelebrated by about 65 Priests and was witnessed by a large number of Sisters, Parents and relatives of the Sisters and well wishers.

These Sisters were felicitated after the Mass. Sr Doreen D’Souza in her felicitation message asked the Sisters to see the face of Christ in the deprived sections of the society, to stand by the Christian values with no compromise whatsoever and to hold on
to Christ to live their consecrated life for the mission of the Church.

This year 35 Ursuline Franciscan Sisters are making their Perpetual Profession in four places - 22 Sisters in Mangaluru, 9 in Mysuru, 3 in Lucknow and 1 in Nagaland.

What a beautiful feeling to witness 22 Ursuline Franciscan Sisters professing their vows in the company of Sr. Doreen and the rest of the congregation. It is also a pride to note that total 35 Ursuline nuns will make their Perpetual Vows. These 35 Nuns will be a true blessing for our Community, and we offer our prayers for their success and glory.

Ursuline Nuns have been dear to us from our childhood because they are headquartered not too far from our humble home at Jeppoo. I remember distinctly, atleast on two separate occasions, I have attended the Xmas midnight mass at the Ursuline Convent as an Altar Server. The Nuns used to make their own cakes and Xmas sweets in those days, and we as Altar Servers were the recipients of the generous plate of "Kooswaar" from the nuns.

We have also visited the Home for the Aged run by the Ursuline Nuns at Rosario. Very impressive place for the elderly. The Ursuline Nuns deserve our grateful thanks.

It is such a blessing to give the life to the service of others, which is indeed gives so much happiness, that money and goodies wont give.

The other day there was a news in BBC that the the vocation for nuns increased 300% in the last 5 years, in UK.
One of the nun really remarked, why she chose this vacation, that it gives pure delight as she doesnt have to think what she has to do for the future nor plan it.

How marvelous was her response. As this materialistic world gets into more and more problems, it is indeed something to ponder about.
