Udupi, Mar 9: Tens of thousands of people gathered at MGM grounds here on Sunday March 9 to witness the Virat Hindu Samajotsava organized by VHP as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.

VHP chief Dr Pravin Togadia was supposed to be the main speaker, but following the ban on his entry into Udupi for week, VHP leader from Nagpur Prashant Hartalkar, who oversees VHP affairs internationally, attended the programme in Togadia's place.

Addressing the gathering, Hartalkar took a dig at the state government and chief minister Siddaramaiah over the ban on Togadia and said, "I am thankful to the district president of VHP Suprasad Shetty for giving me this opportunity, but more than that, I should thank the chief minister of Karnataka, as Dr Pravinbhai Togadia was supposed to come, but now I have got the opportunity in his place. May god give him (CM) some sense.

"You cannot change people's beliefs with swords, politics and schemes. The CM should have at least come and witnessed this immense faith here and respected it," he added.

Referring to the Congress party, he said, "You are not there in the entire country, you are left only in Karnataka, so at least you should manage yourself here. You have lost your heart and mind. You have become pauper.

"Doctor (Pravin Togadia) was supposed to come here but unfortunately the compounder has come," he quipped.

Praising Udupi for its religious sanctity, he said, "VHP began in Udupi, so without taking the name of Udupi my speech is incomplete. VHP has completed 50 years and it has guaranteed the safety of Hindus across the world. No Hindu is lonely - all Hindus in the world are one and united. This awareness has been created by VHP throughout the world. This organization is scientifically built with the blessings of saints and true ideology."

Quoting from Bhagavad Geeta, he said, "If you protect dharma, dharma will protect you. A father should follow pitr dharma and mother, matr dharma. If father fails to follow pitr dharma, he will be in old age home. If mother fails to follow her matr dharma, her daughter will fall prey to love Jihad. Hence we need to follow our dharma."

Stressing on the need to preserve Hindu religion and traditions, he said, "About 250 years ago, several Hindus were taken to other countries as slaves. They were without families and money, still they went from being zeroes to heroes. They recited bhajans and Hanuman Chalisa every evening and that practice is still alive in those countries. Even today Ramayana is told in Bali in their language. The PM of Mauritius is a Hindu. It is because we preserved our culture and tradition, and because keertanas and bhajans were recited in our childhoods, the practice continues even today."

Lauding the VHP further, he said, "VHP is well organized and there is no problem on any front. Many reformers came to this world but they could not succeed in their mission because there was a necessity of organizaion, but VHP has done that with team work from the past 50 years.

"When I went to Pakistan where there are 27 lac Hindus, I saw that the Hindus there have no right to cremate the dead according to Hindu faith. Some do it secretly with fear. Here (in India) Muslims are demanding various facilities and complaining that they did not get this and that, but it is painful to see the condition of the Hindus in Pakistan. When there is right of cremation in the entire world, Pakistan has not given this right to Hindus there. Where can those Hindus go? They are looking at us because we are their elder brothers," he said.

"When I was in Bangladesh for 16 days, I saw 148 temples being destroyed and Hindus being raped and murdered. Where they will go and who will be responsible for them? We, the Hindus of Bharat, are responsible for them. Let us morally support them. We have to prove our capability and face reality. Nothing will come from mere shouting. The entire Hindu community of the world has expectations from us," he said.

"When there was economic crisis in America, the entire Europe was shaken but India did not feel its impact. It is because of our culture, because of our ladies who manage household banking. Indian culture is strongly rooted, it begins from family. When a good Hindu comes from a good family, our culture will be protected. We should think about this. We should not become orthodox but progressive Hindus," he exhorted.

'CM fears losing his chair, he is supporting PFI'

Organizing secretary of VHP south province Gopalji said, "We are celebrating 50 years of VHP and already in 18 places, about 3,000 to one lac people have gathered for each of the Hindu Samajotsavas. Out of the 18, Dr Pravin Togadia has addressed eight Samajotsavas, but every programme was held peacefully. But from February 8, his programmes have been banned because the CM fears losing his chair."

He also criticized Dr Vishal, the DC of Udupi for imposing the ban on Togadia and said, "I have met Dr Vishal, and know him from the Yadgir incident. He is anti-Ram and narrow-minded. The state government gave permission to the rally of PFI whose activists cheered for Pakistan and allowed them to go up till 7 pm, but they want Hindu Samajotsava to end by 5.30 pm. Why is the CM supporting PFI?

"In VHP there are several Togadias. VHP does not exist because of only Togadia's name - it is in the hearts of youth, and no one can stop the VHP wave - neither the CM nor his mother (Sonia Gandhi). VHP has created awareness among Hindus. It is great community that has worked for the development of humanity and treats the entire world as family. Hindus never invaded holding swords in one hand and the holy book in other, or by offering service. We love the entire world."

Speaking on conversion issue, he said, "Muslims converted forcibly and Christians in the name of service. Conversion should be stopped or there should be law against conversion, if not Ghar Wapsi will continue.

"Ours is a great community which has provided education to women. But elsewhere, girls are shot when they go to school - is this culture or perversion of culture? If such girls want to come to Hindu religion, be ready to welcome them. Hindu population will not decline, this is era of Hindu development.

"Among Muslims, some women feel that they cannot be inside burkha any longer. No girl wants to hide her face. Such Muslim girls feel that if they marry a Hindu, they will have their husband lifelong (as against polygamy).

"Christians converted Hindus by luring them with service. People are talking of the service offered by Christians but there also Hindu Maths which provide free education without converting anyone. Hence we are not ready to accept the service of Mother Teresa. VHP is providing education in the name of Ekal Vidyalaya to 20 lac students in rural areas."

He also warned the Hindus against love Jihad and asked them to be 'careful', and declared that Ram Mandir will be built and some day Pakistan will be rejoined to India.

Minorities should raise voice against conversion and terrorism: Pejawar Swamiji

Sri Vishweshateertha Swamji of Pejawar Math termed the Virat Hindu Samajotsava as 'Vishwa Roopa Darshana' in Udupi and said, "We are not against anyone nor are we communal. But we are believers in love."

"VHP is protecting the culture of this nation and the sanatana dharma. Minorities need not fear, no one will face injustice. Conversion and terrorist actvities should stop and minorities should raise their voice against these issues. When this happens, there will be peace and harmony in society. When conversion takes place, there will also be reconversion, and this is what leads to conflict. You are free to follow your faith but do not interfere in other's faiths.

"There should be no attempt to convert anyone, and minority communities need to speak out against this. Peace and harmony can be maintained if there is no conversion and terrorist activities. Minority leaders should guide their communities in the right path and give them good message. We should all make efforts to build a peaceful society," he said.

Citing an example from the Ramayana, he said, "Youth should be like Ram and Laxman and fight against terrorism and conversion, which have caused problems to the entire nation.

"We condemn conversion in the name of service - it should not be done. We demand the government to bring law against conversion. The government has given so many facilities to the minorties - we are not saying do not give, but along with them, give the same facilities to the majority community too. Do not discriminate."

On the issue of cow slaughter, he said, "See the presence of 'Gau Mata' in humans and agriculture. It gives milk from birth to death. The Karnataka government should ban cow slaughter as done in Maharashtra."

He also gave call to end untouchability and said, "The society should become free from untouchability. It is insult to Hindu Samaj - there is no such practice in any other faith."

He concluded by declaring, "Conversion, corruption, terrorism, cow slaughter and untouchability are evils to this nation and we should all join hands to abolish them."

Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva said, "Culture, values and patriotism have been given to us by our forefathers. Everyone should look into our past and contemplate on this. As per our expectastions, the country has got a leader like Narenda Modi. PM Modi is our dream come true."

He also spoke on terrorism and said, "Our country has shattered because of terrorism. Is it wrong to say that terrorism is wrong?"

On the issue of conversion he said, "I have seen conversion. As I am running educational institutions I have adopted many children but never converted any student, but I have seen children from Manipur and Siddhi and Koraga communities getting converted and coming here. Is it wrong to ask that conversion should stop?"

On cow slaughter he said, "We cannot compare cow to other animals. The central government should ban cow slaughter and fulfill our wishes. Let us support the government in this.

"There is a global challenge today. Culture and folk traditions are being twisted. Only truth should be taught in schools," he said.

Nagraj Shetty, former minister, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA of Kaup, Sunil Kumar, MLA Karkala, Vilas Nayak, BJP leader, Deviprasad Shetty, Geethanjali Suvarna, ZP member, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, Katpady Shankar Poojary, former president of ZP, Shyamala S Kunder, secretary, State BJP, Rajesh Kumar Katapady, Mattu Manohar Shetty, Jerry Vincent Dias and others were present.

    2) Do you know (if you read any international news paper or watch any International reputed News channel, I doubt) in Pakistan even they destroyed several Churches. Recently in Syria they killed several Christians. So what you did for that??? Time being leave playing Kutti Donne & try to be matured enough to do some service to society.

I have hundreds of examples but I can't write all here.

Just for your knowledge as per me only one POWER which we call God , Jesus or Allah. I believe in all. I go church, Dargha & Temple to pray. I do social work for the society, I work to develop Harijan colonies. T work to minimise traffic accidents in Karavali. Why can't help to the person do social service, instead of writing shameless comments here.

Wonderful procession, and a colorful display of india's hindu religion. Being a christian myself, i do appreciate the vibrant heritage and culture of this great land of ours.
    BUT
certain things still bother me and create doubts, confusion and fear in my mind. anyways we shall not go into that for now.

And some statements by these speech giving people are funny, ridiculous... call it whatever you like. 2 examples i've quoted here.

1)"I saw 148 temples being destroyed and Hindus being raped and murdered."

Arre! what were you doing there? playing kutti donne?

There is no harm in having VHP Day or Samajotsava. But let us not use these initiatives to divide India. Instead let us learn to use these platforms to unite India, build India and make an effort to position it into a fully developed and civilized Country. Let us understand, many of our Indians earn their daily bread in other countries like, Gulf, Europe, USA/Australia etc, where they are minority and every wrong act of ours in India can affect them too. So Let us become responsible and work to eliminate divisions within our society, which will no doubt lead India to become a SUPER POWER.....

Hindu's in Pakistan cannot look at Hindu's of Hindustan as their elder brothers nor muslims in Hindustan cannot look at muslims of pakistan as their elder brothers. Hartalkar's statements are full of ignorance and misleading. Hindus of Pakistan are enjoying freedom and offlate I read news that they observed holi festival in pakistan with full pomp and enthusiasm. There is no denial of cremation to Hindu's in Pakistan. Hartalkar infusing hatred in people by giving wrong informations. He has forgotten that there is international law, foreign affair ministries and embassy's which govern and focus on peaceful co-existence. Even businessmen and landlords who are terrorizing people and making money in the name of education are also speaking about terrorism and patriotism. These Samajotsvas are dramaas and hidden agenda of RSS and BJP to instigate people on other communities and create hatred and divide people.

I appreciate the organizer for this meaningful function. of course there are some people who don't like the unity of hindu people they may disagree with this & it is common.

Dear Pradeep, Mangalore - We already know that 'Hindu Maha Sagara' or 'Samajotsava is the strength of our unity' because you are 85% of the total Indian population. You are the majority, you are supreme and you are powerful. Nobody denies this fact and also nobody is against Hindus. We are a secular nation having equal status and rights to all the religions without discrimination. So in fact there is no need for such Samajotsavas at all. Please note as long as Hindus have tolerance, discipline and unity they will continue to be supreme in India and no one interferes with anyone. We all want to live in peace and harmony as no religion propagates hatred. These functions are more of political nature than religious as these are mostly patronized by the BJP/RSS/Sangh Parivar.

This programme is nothing but BJP sponsored programe keeping on eye on coming elections. If all the Hindu unites on the bais of Gita and purana's other communities need not to be worried or If other communities unite Hindu's not need to be worried. Gita or Veda's or Purana's never ask to hate fellow nations, but the agenda of RSS and Manusmrit is dangerous if people wants to unite Hindu's on RSS and Manu Ideology it will be dangerous for Nation and other fellow Indians. Lesson from the yesterday's programme was even though people came from different districts locals were not interested at all.

If people want to accept the teachings/ideology of any other particular faith how can anyone stop him. If you then think that what he is doing is wrong by converting to other religion, then try to convince him to revert by preaching the religion which you follow. That is the only logical option anyone has got. Violence is totally irrelevant in this case.

Question : How can you link Indian Muslims to Pakistan and Bangladesh and say India only for Hindus. Why these people can not understand India is a Secular Country. If Hindus are not allowed to perform burial ceremony, then you need to take it up with Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You also have Pakistani Embassy. Do you have any single letter forwarded to these authorities. Why you are wasting your time and others with these silly talks.

If Prakash Hartalkar is really speaking on hindu venue ...I can point dress code advised in his scriptures, polygamy in his scriptures, polyandry, meat eating.......When it is advised in your sacred books advising others on burka, meat eating ,polygamy would be hypocrisy... Why only invite women... ...we invite every man and women to Islam.....coming to your obsession of burkha
vast majority of muslims wear burkha on their own...If he thinks burkha is by force he may be true in context of saudi or Iran where it is strictly implemented...what about U.S,india or srilanka or U.k..why women wear it ...If he thinks Islam degrades women then why most of convert to Islam are women and most of these convert wear hijab on their own is there someone forcing this women in U.S or U.k or canada ...In france muslim women are fighting for hijab right.... It is the other point he must know it..
If he thinks polygamy is not part of hindu culture I advise him to read his scriptures properly ...regarding meat eating and beef I advise him same...regarding burkha or veil I advise him same...

Secondly if VHP is more worried of conversion of people in north east for your knowledge people of north east were neither hindus nor christians they were following their own indigeneous animistic belief until recently...if christian missionary convert these people ....VHP must say in public what is vanavasi kalyan yojan and Ekal vidyalay doing in N.E...??Isnt it hypocrisy when you too are indulged and advising others ....

Veerendra Hegdeji was conspicuous by his absence.
As expected Sadhvi Balaki did not come as she was afraid that Suresh Bhat Bhakrabail may lodge another complaint against her.
Vijay Bhootnath Shetty was also missing because VHP told him in Mangalore that - Khel Khatam Paisa Hajum !

Hartalkar said in his speech "When there was economic crisis in America, the entire Europe was shaken but India did not feel its impact" -

Dear Hartalkar, it is just because of the UPA govt and the credit goes to the strong economists like Dr.Manmohan Singh, P.Chidambaram, Pranab Mukarjee etc.

Pejawar Swamiji said "Minorities should raise their voice against conversion and terrorism" - Dear Swamiji, minorities not at all involved in this kind of activities. If some sick minded people are involved from the minorities the entire community should not be blamed".
CM never support PFI, Congress govt is keeping same distance with Sangha Parivar & PFI. Both are political rivals and fighting against Congress only, no other aim. However people disappointed by the absence of Balika.

    @Shankar,
Am muslim, I had commented seeing speeches from Hindutva leaders in past Hindu Samajotsavas. I do not understand your views accepting a opinion based on religion or gender. and am very clear in the speeches by our Maualanas not against you or any Hindus, they preach and guide for wrong doers in muslim. You can just refer the 'Manukula Gauravais' by A P Aboobakkar Musliyar last time at Mangalore

the benefit and the advantage you get by such gathering samajosva , get more loss to the public belong to all religions including majority of hindus, shopkeeper have to close their shops, workers of daily wages loose their coolie for not having bus service because of traffic block, shoppers never entered the city because of fear, students wrote exams in a very hurry to reach homes soon before procession start, many school gave holiday
individual loss is loss for country also.

    not at all
    -obviously for fear
    -for blocked traffic
-tension of hearing anti religious slogans.

this is what happening usually all past samajosva.

but this time the organizer announce all participants to be calm and quit, and reach home without stopping anywhere. to keep the honour of vhp. I appreciate for understanding peace.
