MoUs for over Rs 12,000 cr investment signed at Coimbatore

Bangalore, Jan 20: As many as 200 investors signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) involving total investment proposals of over Rs 12,000 cr at a roadshow conducted by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in neighbouring Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district for attracting investors to the border district of Chamarajanagar.

Siddaramaiah invited industry leaders from northwest Tamil Nadu to invest in his state's border district Chamarajanagar, which is being developed as a greenfield industrial hub.

"I invite you all to explore the diverse opportunities Chamarajanagar offers and benefit from incentives being provided to invest in the border district," Siddaramaiah told about 500 industry leaders and entrepreneurs here, about 360 km from Bangalore.

Addressing the investors, he said the World Economic Forum in its recent survey has identified Karnataka among the top four innovation bubs in the world and the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of US has rated Bangalore as among the eighth largest technology innovation clusters.

The State has been a pioneer on various fronts and has consistently provided an environment that nurtures the spirit of Innovation and entrepreneurship,  he said pointing out that the State provide ample opportunities in the textiles, food processing, solar power, automobile and mining sectors.

Chamarajanagar district, which close to Mysore and Mandya, had its own natural resources, forests and environment and provided very good investment opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sector besides other fields, the chief minister said.

Siddaramaiah said Karnataka proposed to organize a Global Investors Meet in October and the date has been tentatively fixed as October 14, he said.

The Chief Minister thanked the support extended by many trade associations like Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association  (CODISSIA) and Southern India Engineering Manufacturers' Association (SIEMA), Thiruppur Textile Association, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Karnataka Udyog Mitra for the success of the Coimbatore Roadshow.

Public Works Minsiter Dr H C Mahavappa said Karnataka was laying an 8-lane 670 km long road from Bidar to Chamarajangar to provide road connectivity.
 
Cooperation Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad and Higher Education and Tourism Minister R V Deshpande, who addressed the investors, said the State Government would provide all necessary infrastructure facilities to investors for setting up their units in Chamarajanagar and other parts of Karnataka.
 
Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayana, Chamarajanagar MLA C Puttaranga Setty, Hanur MLS R Narendra and Former minister H M Revanna as well as FKCCI president Shivakumar were present.
