Dubai, Oct 26:
The grand finale of Mangalore Konkans Silver Jubilee Celebrations -  “Celebrations 25” concluded  with a glittering extravaganza held at Dubai’s Hotel Crowne Plaza, in the midst of well attended dignitaries and crème of Mangalorean community in the UAE.

It was an apt occasion to celebrate the 25 years of eventful journey of Mangalore Konkans - an affiliate of Indian Welfare committee in Dubai  befitting its illustrious existence and the selfless service towards the community in the UAE and in India.  The year long celebration comprising of sports meets charity events, culinary and talent contests and seminars etc concluded with a spectacular display of pomp and grandeur.

The event was presided over by none other than the ever popular Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo – the people’s man, who had flown all the way from Mangalore and was an  excellent choice to grace this memorable occasion.  His presence made the occasion more meaningful and noteworthy.  M K Lokesh – Ambassador to the UAE who will be leaving the UAE shortly was  the guest of honour

The service provided by Mangalore Konkans has benefitted thousands of beneficiaries throughout the UAE and in India and the event  was a proud moment for the past and present members of the association, which had its humble beginning 25 years ago (1988) and the joy of fulfillment was visibly evident on the faces of its members throughout the well organized programme.

The eventful evening, packed to capacity, commenced with a meaningful song specially composed for the occasion with its colourful audio visual presentation which was a prelude to the forthcoming programme of the evening.  Due to the presence of diverse communities  and languages among the audience, the event was presented in both English and Konkani. Chanel D’sa presented a beautiful  ballet dance symbolising the Silver jubilee.

The Chief Guest J R Lobo, M K Lokesh, Padmashree B R Shetty, Ronald Colaco, James Mendonca, President of Mangalore Konkans,  Tracy Rodrigues - Chairperson - Silver Jubilee Year Events  and Aboline D’Cunha -, Vice President of Mangalore Konkans lit the lamp followed by cutting of the cake and opening of a champagne bottle to symbolically commomerate the 25th Silver Jubilee.

The evenings procedings were meticulously planned by Tracy Rodrigues - Chairperson - Silver Jubilee Year Events  under the guidance and leadership of ever smiling  James Mendonca – the dynamic president of Mangalore Konkans.

MLA J R Lobo,  raised the Silver Jubilee toast.  In his brief speech Lobo applauded the service of Mangalore Konkans and said that he was previleged to be part of the rare silver jubilee celebration of a renowned organization overseas.  He also urged the Mangaloreans based in the UAE to involve themselves in the development of Mangalore city making it into to tourist hub of the south.

It was an appropriate occasion for Mangalore Konkans to honour the stalwarts of Mangalorean community who have rendered their services in various ways inrrespective of religion, caste and creed throughout the past years.

During the occasion the great philonthrophist, NRI businessman & Entrepreneur Ronald Colaco was conferred with a special award 'Konkan Ratn' in recognition of his enormous contribution to the Christian community and Society at large.  His outstanding contribution towards humanity, was duly acknowledged and will be remembered for a long time to come.   As a philanthropist Ronald Colaco has contributed millions for the general welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed, race or religion.  The title bestowed on him was appropriate as he has proved himself as a real “Jewel” among Mangalorean Konkan Community.

As a man of vision and foresight Colaco established International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) of which he is the founder Chairman. IFKCA was set up with the solemn idea of protecting the interests of Christians and fostering unity among the different denominations of Christians.

The evening was packed with unique entertainment comprising of music, songs, dance and fun all the way.

To commemorate their Silver Jubilee, Mangalore Konkans initiative to create a new fund, an unique concept to pledge support for their new venture named "Fire of Benevolence" was initiated during the occasion, where by possible sponsors and donors were asked to pledge their support by filling a form, reserve their name on the leaves of a tree drawn on board towards their humanitarian and social cause towards the aged, socially deprived people of undivided Dakshina Kannada The novel idea garnered lot of enthusiasm and support from the audience.

I applaud Mangalore Konknan Dubai for Honoring Mr. Ronald Colaco with a deserving title “ KONKAN RATN”. No doubt its an unanimous decision by MKD committee to present a title and an award to such a great personality of our community. I am sure no one or self can list or figure out his generosity to all the communities in large. So, rightly MKD honored him in a fashionable way, like trumpet to lead the way followed by two little girls with light in hands and 2 committee members escorted one and only the great philanthropist from Konkanni community Mr. Ronald Colaco to the dais. The letter of honoring is beautifully narrated, shawl really impressive, the Crown is loveliest . Receiving an Award or Memento in Dubai at MKD’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations before the huge lovely crowed from His Excellency S.M. Lokesh the Ambassador of India to UAE and the title ‘Konkani Ratn” from MLA of Karnataka State to Mangalore south Mr. J R. Lobo is surely a great feeling which is rememorable one for years. So congratulations for well deserved personality “ Konkani Ratn” Mr. Ronald Colaco. I feel it’s a miracle or blessings from above to receive this honoring on the day of Mr. Ronald & Jean’s 30th wedding anniversary, who have helped more than 30 crores needy people around the world. May the Almighty bless you abundantly. Thanks to MKD for honoring such a wonderful deserving candidate.

Completing & surviving for 25 years itself is a great achievement. Congratulations MK. Nice to see the rightly deserving recognitions of worthy people. However, honoring the fouding fathers of MK would have added to its glory, dignity & sincerity without whose initiatives and hard word the KM would not have been in existence. If not anythihg else atleast one photograph would have helped.

I have witnessed this wonderful program. I just wants to high light the best things I observed of this grand event. So that other associations can learn from this esteemed organization.
    1. Konkanni & English languages used to narrate the event. All most all the languages used to entertain the audience by singing Mangalorean Konkanni, Goan Konkanni, Kannada, Hindi, Punjabi & English consisting of new, old, Filmy, album and Baila songs. Singers are ed from the age group of 25 to 75 years from new to old generation who can entertain with their melodious voices. No doubt Music was tremendously foot tapping.
    2. Unbiased decision is taken while ing the awardees, because all the recipients are deserve the honour for their service to the society in their respective field. Congratulations Awardees.
    3. Souvenir released at the occasion is symbolic and praise worthy. The Souvenir is beautifully printed which says lot about UAE,also the events, history & the charity work from MKD.
    4. I salute the new venture “ Fire the Benevolence” which is a noble cause. Please support this cause which will reward you in hundred folds.
    5. Whole program is professionally arranged even the sequence of songs and so on.
    6. Food was sumptuous, which was mouth watering.
    7. Hall was jam packed, Crowed was so decent, not only people living in Dubai, Abudhabi, Sharjah witnessed this ever remarkable program but also from Mangalore, Bangalore, Udupi, Goa, Kuwait, Oman & The United Kingdom. Number of dignitaries from all over attended this grand gala including Priests and His Excellency the Ambassador of India to UAE. The crowd was so Fantastic.

So all the credit goes to the Mangalore Konkan Dubai for a wonderful event. Congratulations MKD. God bless you all MKDs. Good going MKD. My salute goes to Mr. James Mendonca & whole team of Mangalore Konkan Dubai.

Excellent and well organized programme. The last song with dance by each member of Mangalore Konkans at the end of the programme reminded me "Om shanti om" movie Song. It was excellent, one of the best part of the programme. Many people missed it. It should have been somewhere in the middle of the programme.

    Good & colourful event.
I was watching the program live at daiji TV. Celebrations is Konkans Silver jubilee...but whole program is organised in English language...!! There was no respect for word "konkani". Konkani peoples forgot their mother tongue because of more westernisation\ fashion mentality.
I noticed when 2 kerala peopels meet in gulf region they will start talking in Malyalam irrespective of their job\ position. When 2 Hindu's meet they start converstation at Tulu..!! but when 2 mangaloreans meet they start communication in English..! may be they feel proud in talking in English OR may be they "feel shy in using mother tongue Konkani"..

Forget about foreign, while i walk into medium standard office in Mangalore, all are talking in English..! Even though we start talking in Konkani, they reply in English...
Konkani language remained for poor peoples, grandmother\ grand fathers.. & very soon going to vanish..
if we ask to a Small kid, who is ready to get holy communion : "Amcha Bapa" gothasa re?? he will sure reply i donot know "I never heard that word"..!
