Mumbai: Sadanand Suvarna Pratishtahn celebrates Karantotsav

Mumbai, Oct 13: Under the joint auspices of the metro-based Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Pratishtahn and Karnataka Sangh, Dr Shivarama Karant memorial Karantotsav–2013 was held at Samarasa auditorium of Karnataka Sangh, Matunga (West) here on Saturday October 12 evening.

Karnataka Sangh president Dr P G Burde presided over the function.

Mangalore-based Gokarnanateshwar College head of department of Kannada Dr Narasimhamurti R was the chief guest explained the lifestyle of the late legendary litterateur Dr Karant on the occasion.

Dr Narasimhamurti after distributing the prizes to the winners of arts competitions to the students, said, “Dr Karant is personification of humanity and integrity. No words are sufficient to explain the multi-faceted personality of Dr Karant. Despite he was awarded with several coveted awards, he was down to earth and led simple living. It is indeed a tribute to Dr Karant by remembering his literary contributions every year during Karantotsav celebrations,” said Dr Narasimhamurty.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Pratishtahn director Sadanand Suvarna said, “Karantotsav aims at introducing the virtues of legendary litterateur Dr Karant to the new generation of youth. Karnataka Sangh has been presenting Karantotsav every year, although the audiences are dwindling over the years, but it is essential that the human virtues of Dr Karant has to be passed on to new generation,” said Suvarna.

Dr P G Burde in his presidential address said that he was fortunate to witness Karantotsav that ought to be filmed for posterity, said Dr Burde.

The foundation secretary S K Sundar, treasurer Professor Shiva Billava, Karantotsav Committee president Dr Vyasarao Ninjoor, Gopal Trasi among others were present on the occasion.

Malati Chandrakant rendered the prayers.  Karnataka Sangh honorary secretary Omdas Kannangar delivered the introductory address. The vice president Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu introduced the guests. G P Kusuma compered the programme and read the names of winners of arts competitions.

Chigurida Kanasu, Kannada movie based on the novel of Dr Shivaram Karant, with cast Shiva Rajkumar, directed by Nagabharana was screened as part of cultural programme on the occasion.
