Saudi Judo team's coach dies in Algeria


Algiers, Oct 9 (IANS): Mohamed Sobei, the Egyptian coach of the Saudi Judo team, died Tuesday in Algiers at the age of 62 following a heart-attack, Xinhua reported citing president of the Algerian Judo Federation, Messaoud Mati.

"The Egyptian coach monitored the training of his team on Tuesday morning at the Omnisports hall of Staoueli (in the western outskirts of Algiers).

"On his way back to the hotel, he made a sick and rushed to a nearby polyclinic where he passed away," Mati was quoted as saying.

The Saudi judo team was holding a training camp in Algeria since Sep 23, with the Algerian and Libyan teams, ahead of the 17th Judo Gulf Championships, due Oct 11 in Qatar.

The deceased is currently kept at the morgue of Zeralda hospital, western Algiers, the source added.

After an initial phase of preparation at the sports center of Tikjda, in the province of Buira, 100 km eastern Algiers, the Saudi judo team returned to Algiers Oct 1 to continue their training camp.
