Mumbai: Dr Vishwanath Karnad to recieve Sri Gurunarayana Literary Award

Mumbai, Mar 13: Dr Vishwanath Karnad, a well known literary and a famous teacher has been chosen for the prestigious 'Sri Gurunarayana Literary Award (2012)', issued by the Akshaya Monthy Magazine, founded by M B Kukian, run by the Billawa Association Mumbai.
 
The selection committee that comprised of Billawa Association president Jaya C Suvarna, president L V Amin, Literary Dr G D Joshi, Dr K Raghunath and others reported the selection of Dr Karnad for the award.

Dr Vishwanath was born on March 16, 1940 in the Mulki province of the undivided Dakshina Kannada District. He is wellknown for his short stories, poems, translations, lectures and associative movements. He has completed his Post Graduation in English and History of Kannada. His work 'Thuluvara Mumbai Valase' was appreciated and he has received PhD from the Mumbai University for the same.

Retired as a lecturer in Kannada from the M D College in Mumbai, DR Karnad has even served as the working president of Karnataka Sangha as well. Being a guest lecturer of Mumbai Kannada Division, he is well known for his social service as well. He is also a multi linguistic scholar. He has also participated in various National Conventions as well.

Karnad has  received a number of other awards including the Suvarna Karnataka Awards.

The awards function is to be held on March 29 at 4 pm at the Billawa Bhavan, Mumbai, presided over by L V Amin, president of Billawa Association.

The function is to be inaugurated by Billawa Association President, Jaya C Suvarna. Famous Literaries, Dr C Veeranna, Dr R Poornima are said to take part as the chief guests. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 15,000, momento and an appreciation letter.
