7 boats from Malpe seized by Maharashtra coast guards

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (VM)

Udupi, Feb 16: Seven deep sea fishing boats and fishermen from Malpe have been held by coast guards at Maharashtra Ratnagiri coast.

They were arrested for carrying out fishing activity within 12 nautical miles from the shore.

However, Malpe fishermen claimed that they were not fishing in the restricted area and said that the allegations against them were false. "The police have also sold our catch worth several lacs," they alleged.

Over the past several years, as the catch has decreasing in Karnataka, deep sea fishermen have been carrying out fishing off Goa and Maharashtra coasts.

Fishermen say that with several such incidents occuring in recent times, it has become difficult for them to go fishing in other states.

What right did the coast guards do? As per gerald, modankap mentioned, Where were these when Terrorist entered?

These guards think they've done heroic deed by catching the fisher men.

"Folks, Malpe mogaveeras were the first one to discover mumbai, gujarat, goa and all from South India."

    Remember this.

It is a comedy news. The malpe fish is going to Mumbai, so the fisherman followed them!!! Let there be big flag, where they cannot cross to other state. Why to spoil the day of fisherman? We are waiting for the fish, but machchiwala is in police custody. Machchiwali also waiting for his man. Police dept should help in these matters but they want pocket money, else policewali will check his earnings for the day ??? Let us not spoil any body's day. After we are all Indians, not Pakistanis.

Coast guards have done the right thing..We have to follow the rules laid by the dept so that we ensure fish density is maintained in our waters..Perhaps this explains why the fish catch is more in Maharastra konkan side than in our Karnataka side...
