Udupi: Young Scientists Apply their 'Brains' in 'Quest' of Victory

Udupi, Nov 18: The tenth annual Udupi district Science and Technology fair-cum-competition 'Brain Quest-2012' was organized by E-Skool at Hotel Kidiyoor premises on Saturday November 17.

There were various innovative ideas displayed during the exhibition like production of electricity using cowpea by VKR Acharya Memorial High School, Kunjar, electricity with the help of potato by students of KMES High School, Karkala, and water purification unit by Kapu Dandatheertha students. Other displays like producing electricity through wind energy, eradication of plastic etc also attracted visitors.

On the occasion, Poornima Kamath, director of E-Skool, displayed effects of economic stability in America through a robotic presentation.

Twenty schools participated for the Science quest wherein scientific models and experiments were displayed.

The competition comprised two categories, physical science and life science. Winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000.

Eight schools participated in I-Quest with house of cards, where the teams built a structure using playing cards.

Seven schools participated in Research Quest, where winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500. The competition required students to solve such questions as “Can you cure grandma’s acidity? and “How to impress your parents by reducing your electricity bill”.
 
Six schools participated in Paper Quest completion. The teams brought home-made papers and slogans not exceeding ten words. The team with the best quality paper and marketing skill were declared the winners. Prizes for the same were Rs 1000, Rs 500, and Rs 250.

The school that attained the highest score won the 'Rolling Srinivas M Kamath Memorial - Best of Brains' BOB trophy.
