Mangalore, Feb 14: A 46-year-old man was murdered by four unidentified men near State Bank area here on Tuesday February 14.

The deceased, Dinesh, a resident of Bavanti street near Central Market, was employed as manager in Kanchan textiles here for the last four months. He was earlier a chaat vendor. He was married.

At around 8 pm, four men came in maroon Tata Sumo, barged into the shop and attacked Dinesh with a sword. It is said that they parked the vehicle at some distance and cross the road, which is about 50 ft on either side of the divider.

Owners of the shop Deepak and Vijay were also around at the time. Deepak tried to stop the attackers and was hit on his hand. The attackers fled the spot immediately after killing Dinesh.

It is said that the attackers spoke in Kannada. Though Deepak and Vijay are from Rajasthan, they understand Kannada, but what transpired between the attackers and Dinesh is yet to be known.

Eyewitnesses said that the ambulance came late to the spot. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot. Investigation and search for the culprits is on. A dog squad was also pressed into action.

Peter Pereira, Pune do you think there was no crime during your congress govt rule. It was more than present now, but the people like you eye only when something goes wrong in BJP ruled state. You say that " Thanks BJP for turning beloved Karnataka into U.P. and Bihar. " To be frank you should have stayed in UP and Bihar then you would have come to know what is Karnataka and what are those states. The cheap mentality people like you always wish some wrong things to take place in karnataka so that you get an opportunity to blame BJP govt.

I am not surprised. This is bound to happen as long as BJP is ruling Karnataka. Police dept. is puppet of BJP leaders. Thanks BJP for turning beloved Karnataka into U.P. and Bihar.

A guy had a sword in his hand which was about 4 ft, he was in the middle of the road easily for about few seconds where he was threatening & daring the public to come near him. There were more than 50 witnesses to the case. Naturally no one had the guts to over power him as he had a sword in his hand

I was told by one eyewitness that he heard the guy with the sword who was crossing the road scream and yell at people while on his way to the parked tata car in Hindi & tulu? This report states Kannada.. Let us hope that ACP T R Jagannath and crime DCP Dharmaiah who "visited" spot make a team and do a wonderful job. As the area where such a thing happened was not a secluded area but MANGALORE'S busiest road, their job should be very easy with the given number of witnesses on such a busy road.

Shocking!!! there is no value for life?,If some one could commit this crime in the heart of the city, it shows how lax is the security system, law & order!how can general public be secure? The law order organisations should investigate and bring all the culprits and the persons behind the scenes to the books.hope the strict action will be taken!

It is simple.....there is a GODFATHER behind this DareDevil act. It is a challenge to the system. Only he who knows that the system is not stronger than him would do this.
We have no idea of why this was done. So, we should not comment.

GERALD MODANKAP,POLICE PEOPLE CANNOT TAKE A STRICT ACTION.THEIR MORAL IS ALREADY AT THE BOTTOM IN DAKSHINA KANNADA.AFTER THE SULLIA INCIDENT NO POLICE OFFICER OR PERSANEL WILL TAKE COURAGE TO TAKE STRICT ACTION AS LONG AS THIS DISTRICT IS IN THE CLUTCHES OF RSS AND BD DOMAIN.IF THEY TAKE STRICT ACTION THEY WILL BE SHIFTED OR SUSPENDED BY THEIR OWN SUPERIORS. THIS TIME THEY MAY CATCH SOME 'BAKRAS' AND MAKE THEM CULPRITS......

It is a shocking incident and why like this incident happens in the heart of Mangalore City in spite of considerable police presence.Police Department need to convince the Mangaloreans about the LAW and Order in and around Managalore.Such kind of incidents need to be checked in time otherwise it would accelerate further which in turn may bring Mangalore City a bad name.

Dinesh, may your soul rest in eternal peace and give comfort and peace to the bereaved family. We do not know the motive behind the killing but the police should catch the culprits and taken to task .It is surprising that this incident took place in front of the owners of Kanchan Textiles. Deepak and Vijay, you were lucky that they did not attack you as they had a sword.
