Bangalore: Atlanta to Host 7th World Kannada Sammelan of AKKA

Bangalore, Oct 17: The US-based Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) has selected Nrupathunga Kannada Koota (NKK) to host its 7th world Kannada Sammelana in Atlanta, Georgia, which will be conducted during the Labor Day weekend from August 31 to September 2, 2012.

The three-day event will being organized by AKKA, a non-profit organization of Kannada associations in the United States of America and Canada, showcases the culture, art and traditions of Karnataka. About 3500 delegates, including exhibitors are expected to participate in the Sammelan.

AKKA had previously held such conferences in Houston, Detroit, Orlando, Baltimore, Chicago and New Jersey and has contributed greatly to integrate, coordinate, and promote the activities of all Kannadigas in North America.

The Nrupathunga Kannada Koota (NKK) was established in 1973 and has been active in promoting culture of Karnataka and uniting Kannadigas throughout the south-eastern United States. For almost 40 years, it has a distinguished presence through its “Chiguru” literary magazine, academic scholarships and vibrant cultural programs.

The Sammelana will be held in Atlanta, GA from August 31-September 2, 2012. Cultural programs with artists from the North American continent and Karnataka, Business, Literary and Women’s Forum, Vendor booths, CME, Matrimonial, Film nite, Beauty Pageant etc will be conducted as part of the Sammelana, according to an official press release.

Atlanta is the international gateway for the Southeastern United States and home for industrial giants such as Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Rubbermaid, Georgia Pacific, Delta airlines and many other reputed companiess.

The city hosted the 1996 Olympics and its airport is the busiest in the world with direct connections to all major cities.

President of AKKA Dayashankar Adappa and Dr H N Ramaswamy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NKK are coordinating the event.

    "ELLE IROOO HEGO IROO NEE KANNADA WAGIROO.AKKA" good luck but don't ruling party's MLAs and Ministers as delegates.Now a days like these cultural programmes which may have contribution of govt of the day using this opportunity as gateway to give a ticket to USA for (visiting foreign country) to their MLA's for various political reasons.If AKKA wanted to show case the cultural richness for generation next, please limit the politicians look for specialized delegates of various field,the Language,art and culture with out seeing affiliations to any political parties.Anyway good luck.
