G K Pillai Gets Prem Nazir Award


Thiruvananthapuram, May 12 (PTI) Veteran Malayalam actor G K Pillai has been chosen for this year's Prem Nazir award, given out in memory of the late evergreen hero.

Pillai, whose career has spanned five and a half decades, has featured in 325 films, the majority of which were with Nazir in lead roles.

R Subhash, chairman and S V Anilal, general convenor of the Chirayinkizhu-based Prem Nazir Trust told reporters at Attingal that the award would be presented to Pillai on May 25 at Sharkara Maidan in Chirayinkizhu.

Pillai is a native of Chirayinkizhu which is also the birthplace of Prem Nazir.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, citation and a statuette designed by artist B D Dathan.
