Mangaluru: St Agnes CBSE School celebrates Nativity Feast, Girl child day

Mangaluru, Sep 13: It was a time to pause and celebrate two important events at St Agnes CBSE school. The Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and Girl child day in preparation to the festival which is celebrated every year on September 8. For the Mangalurean Catholics who are now spread world-wide this is an important family festival. Since the birth of Mother Mary marks the important existence of woman and her role in family this day is also commemorated to every girl child.

 

A nine-day novena prayer was conducted by teachers and students in preparation to the festive day. A meaningful programme was presented by the students of grade VIC and IIA marking the significance of the day. It was an August gathering with Dr Sandra Sunita Lobo currently working as associate professor and HOD of Psychology, school of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya Mangaluru who was the chief guest for the event, along with our school Principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC.

The gathering was welcomed formally by Namashree of grade VI followed by a captivating welcome dance. The students of grade II enthralled the audience with their melodious singing of the song ‘I am Unstoppable’. A meaningful dance drama was presented on importance of a girl child. The highlight of the programme was depicting the importance of harvest festivals of different religious symbolising cultural etiquettes and rituals. Altogether a meaningful programme was presented by the students in equal coordination by teachers Priya and Mishal.

Some meaningful competitions were also conducted in classes to commemorate the day such as: recitation of poem on Girl child for grade I and II, grade III and IV conducted elocution competition on save girl child, for grade VI to VIII Pick and speak on the topic girl child and for grade IX and X mono acting competitions were organised and carried out enthusiastically.

The guest in her message congratulated everyone for the presentation of a meaningful programme and to the teachers for training them. She spoke on the birth of Mother Mary and the way she brought joy to the world with she being a woman sets an example for taking the role of woman strongly and maturely. She emphasized the meaning of GIRL- Gift in Real Life She stressed an important aspect, ‘Always say yes to all that you aspire to do and to never give up’. She stressed that every girl is gift that brings joy in the families.

The principal too shared few important thoughts of importance of celebrating feast as one family, to pray for the family members and not to forget the farmers who work hard in providing grains to every house. The feast of nativity symbolizes, day of sharing and stressed that the number of good deeds done should create a garland for Mother Mary. She too expressed her appreciation for presenting a meaningful programme.

The programme was compered by students Rachel and Swajitha and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dhaanvi expressing gratitude for the wonderful participation by the audience. The programme came to a closure with a loud applaud.
