3 persons held for illegal mining in Pathankot


Pathankot (Punjab), Sep 4 (IANS): Police in Punjab's Pathankot have arrested three persons for their involvement in illegal mining and confiscated 11 vehicles used in the illegal activities, an official said on Sunday.

Gagandeep Singh of Gurdaspur, Palwinder Singh of Sri Hargobindpur in Batala, and Malkit Singh, Civil Lines, Batala were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal mining in the district, Senior Superintendent of Police, Pathankot, H.S. Khakh told media.

He said that police had received some complaints of illegal mining following which teams were constituted to conduct the raids and nab the illegal miners.

The SSP said that police arrested three accused and seized 11 heavy trucks loaded with sand and gravel which were taking "chor" route to avoid police 'nakas'.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 121 under Section 4(1)(A), and 21(A) of the Mining Act was registered against the accused at police station Sujanpur, Pathankot, said Khakh.
