I-Day celebrated with bubbling enthusiasm in Udupi, Kundapur

Udupi/Kundapur, Aug 15: The district administration celebrated the Independence Day with sense of allegiance and bubbling enthusiasm, at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium Ajjarkad here on Monday August 15.

S Angara, Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport department and district in-charge minister hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour from the cadets of different wings.

Angara, delivering the Independence Day message said, “A tender on construction of coastal berth at Hangarakatte is under process under Sagar Mala project. The total construction cost would be Rs 7.80 crore with 50% share each from the central and state government. The government has given approval for the construction of a coastal berth at Gangolli at a cost Rs 95.88 crore and Rs 228.78 crore for construction of multi- purpose port at Byndoor, and Rs 304.17 crore for construction of multi-purpose port at Malpe.

“The district administration is giving more focus on the development of tourism in the district. It is taking up the work of complete renovation and development of the ancient Jain basadi at Anekere in Karkala at a cost of Rs 2 crore. The development of Parashurama theme park at Umikalkunja hill is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

“Udupi district will celebrate its silver jubilee of becoming an independent district on August 25.

“Independence is not just having freedom; it is a very important day for everyone. We are accountable of maintaining that freedom throughout. Every person, who respects other people's freedom, is eligible for claiming his freedom. Youths should understand the value of freedom by knowing the life and works of freedom fighters.

“During the times of the British, we were not able to hold any development programmes. But today, we are the leaders of our own growth. We have achieved many milestones in the last 75 years phase by phase,” he said.

Minister Angara also flagged off Agni Sethu camp, a training programme for youths to join the army.

Weightlifter Gururaj P, bronze medallist in Commonwealth Games 2022 was felicitated. Laptops were distributed to ten toppers of SSLC exams 2020-21.

MLA Raghupati Bhat and Angara handed over the keys of vehicles to physically-challenged through the district disability welfare department.

Students of government higher primary school, Valakadu, Madhava Krupa School Udupi, and Indrali English medium higher primary school performed dance to patriotic songs .

Kurma Rao M, deputy commissioner, N Vishnuvardhan, district superintendent of police Udupi , Prasanna Kumar, ZP CEO, Sumithra Nayak, CMC president , Mattaru Rathnakara Hegde, president, Coastal Development Authority, Uday Kumar Shetty, president, the Mysore Electrical Industries Limited Bangaluru Manohar S Kalmady, president , Udupi Urban Development Authority, Veena, additional deputy commissioner and others were present.

Independence Day celebrated in Kundapur

“The platinum jubilee of Independence Day is celebrated recalling the dedication and sacrifice of our forefathers as well as the symbol of national awareness. This is a great day that will inspire constantly the present generation. Let this celebration be held every day,” said K Raju, assistant commissioner of Kundapur sub division.

Raju was speaking after hoisting the flag on Kundapur Gandhi Maidan.

“It is double celebration for the district of Udupi as it completes 25 years of its formation today. Commendable achievement is done in the fields of education, medical, tourism and religion. This district has given top notch contribution in the freedom struggle also,” said Raju.

The programme was presided over by town municipality president Veena Bhaskar Mendon. People representatives, police personnel, teachers and students of city limits took part in the programme.

Kundapur tahsildar Kiran G Gowraiah welcomed the gathering. Zonal education officer Arun Kumar rendered vote of thanks. Journalist Chandrashekhara Beejadi compered the programme.

A procession was held from Kundapur Junior Colleg to Gandhi Maidan which consisted of Kundapur police, NCC, NCC band set, Bharatamble tablo, Chende drums. Student teasm of schools and colleges, people representatives, officials of all department took part in the procession.

March past after the flag hoisting increased the tempo of the event. AC K Raju took the guard of honour. Police, NCC, Scouts and guides teams took part in the march past.
