PM Modi mentions Nehru in Independence day speech after Savarkar

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): A day after the BJP blamed first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the partition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his name in his speech while paying tributes to the freedom fighters who fought for the nation during his Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

Prime Minister Modi said, "We should remember those who fought for Independence and built the nation -- Dr Rajendra Prasad, Nehru ji, Sardar Patel, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Deendayal Upadhyaya, Jai Prakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, Vinoba Bhave, Nanaji Deshmukh, Subramaniam Bharati -- it is the day to bow before such great people."

But, before mentioning Nehru, Modi paid tributes to Savarkar and said the people of the country are thankful to Bapu, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Veer Savarkar who gave their lives on the path of duty. "Kartvya path hi unka jeevan path raha," he said.

The Prime Minister also mentioned Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Sidhu Kanhu, Alluri Sitaram, Raju, Govind Guru -- "there are many names who became the voice of the freedom struggle and had inspired the tribal community to live and die for mother nation."

He said every Indian is filled with pride when they remember the strength of Rani Laxmibai, Jhalkari Bai, Chennamma, Begum Hazrat Mahal.

He said the nation is also thankful to revolutionaries like Mangal Pandey, Tatya Tope, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqullah Khan, Ram Prasad Bismil who shook the very foundation of British Rule.

Arriving at the Red fort, PM Modi inspected the guard of honour while Mi17 helicopters showered petals during the event.

Such things happen when people in power are unable to distinguish between traitors and patriots, and the citizens turn a blind eye to it.

My view is simple. Nobody is alive who saw the real events, Sarkar or Nehru . So its better to ignore , if cannot proven. Simply objecting and protesting will only make Congress look foolish. To this day , not even one protest of Congress has ended in a logical conclusion, forget emerging victorious. Either the protest was called off or was a damp squib. So ignore it and go with the flow. Happy Independence day!
