Muthuraman Elected New CII President


New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) Tata Steel vice chairman B. Muthuraman has been elected the new president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2011-12 while Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej is the president-designate.

Muthuraman succeeds Hari Bhartia of Jubilant Organosys.

CEO and managing director of Infosys Technologies S. Gopalakrishnan has been elected the vice president for 2011-12, the CII said in a statement Monday.

"This is the first time the CII has three office bearers at the helm of affairs, as per changes in the rules of the organisation," the statement said.

Muthuraman, who joined Tata Steel in 1966, has held various positions at the company. He is also the chairman of Tata International.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology-educated Godrej is also chairman of Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Household Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Hershey, Keyline Brands of Britain and Rapidol Pty of South Africa.

Gopalakrishnan, who was appointed CEO of Infosys Technologies in June 2007, is one of the founders of the company.
