Gang attacks two in Delhi's Wazirabad

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS): A gang of 10 people attacked and injured two men in the national capital's Wazirabad area, an official said on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said a call of firing was received at Wazirabad police station on late Thursday around 11.15 p.m. after which the police rushed to the spot.

"It was found that around 10 people came in search of one Deepak (21) in Ramesh Tyagi Colony. However, he was not available at his residence and had switched off his mobile," DCP Kalsi said.

On the way back, the mob vandalised two bikes parked on the road and attacked a few passers-by. "During the scuffle with the passers-by, two people -- Jatin (17) and Ajay (42) -- were injured and shifted to a hospital. The injuries were not from the gunshots," the senior official said.

Accordingly, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act and have begun probing the matter. "Out of the mob, 7 persons have been identified. Identification of others and their apprehension is under process," the DCP added.
